What's the meaning of friend to you

I am known to be a social awkward type of person. I have a few friends which was my fault anyway. Thank goodness I still have some friends. I always be a loner because I am afraid to start a conversation with people. When I was in high school, I have some friends in my class that their actions made me puzzled. Sometimes they did went overboard, insulting me that made me upset and getting embarrassed at myself. Sometimes, they did something that made me wanted to burst into tears due to their kindness. It's like they've two personalities which was confusing to me. It's a small matter but they helped me fix my glasses because it lost a screw. I am too lazy to take the glasses to the shop and they saw me wearing it in class. They fix my glasses using a stapler bullet as an alternative to the screw. I can use the glasses until now without having problem. It makes me missed them but I don't know if they felt the same as we already graduated from high school. Do you think everyone has the same kind of friends like mine? Sorry that it is too long. What does friend really mean to you? Do someone has the right to be called a friend if they insult and make you upset? Don't get me wrong, I can take a joke but sometimes they just went overboard.

I regard friendship as a mutual state of care, respect and affection that transcends standard human relations. Albeit, I also think good humour is a significant facet of a successful friendship; some jokey, slightly vexing comments should be able to be transferred between both parties, without any resulting resentment.

Basically, if those people treated you in a way that made you feel a little incensed sometimes, perhaps they simply didn't realise that they were hurting your feelings. After all, they could have just been having an innocuous laugh/poking fun at you; it sounds as if they did care about you, at least a little. That said, if you ever feel any of your current/future friends are truly being insensitive and overstepping the mark, you should - sensitively - let them know. If people truly are your friends, they should be empathetic and seek to treat you with greater respect in the future :)

We will never know or define exactly what friendship is ..it's not a formula or explained on humans acknowledge ..so just feel it with all yr heart.! It will never need any word to describe..just need some hearts to give and take

Nobody is perfect .u know .everyone has their own personalities that God just gave for them..that made every1 special..if we accept theirs..all.i mean include their weakness..some their features made we just wanna get mad while they're showing us...cuz like friends. So they will give you the real 'weird ' part inside of them. Friendship is very special specially :)))

Someone whose got your back no matter what. Someone who "gets" you even if you're different from them.

Someone who gives you complete freedom to be yourself and vice versa.

@the insulting question... it's a judgment call and I guess it depends on the intention of the insult, topic, as well as the sensitivity of the person being insulted. It's hard to explain. I'm an enormous shit talker and don't spare any friends nor family. But then I have one friend who's the sensitive and overly self-critical type and takes things to heart so there I tone it down.
