What's the longest you've ever gone without eating?

How long have you gone without eating? Juice or high calorie beverages (milk, milkshakes, smoothies, supplement beverages such as Ensure or Slimfast, sugary soda, etc) count as eating. Sugar free gum, water, diet soda, and diet juice do not.

What is this "eating" you speak of?

    • With all that ganja, I'd think you'd know. (It's what you do with Cap'n Crunch and snack cakes).

I prefer pizza rolls, the "Fat Bitch" (cheesesteak, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, lettuce, and marinara sauce), and so on until I've listed pretty much any food on Earth.

I've just gone a full 2 days without eating and I hardly had any sleep. I was writing a dissertation and all I had were coffee and cigarettes.

Around 3.5 to 4 days after I broke my jaw. Eating was hard, my face hurt, & my stomach was more than a little upset.

6 days without any food(also just mineral water and tea, no juices or stuff).
Then i was acting lightheaded and weird enough for my roommate to force me to eat a quarter of an apple.
And that was taking me more than 15 minutes until i was done and felt like i just ate a feast.

    And it was intentional.

2 days because I was ill. I wasn't eating loads for a week, but I can remember my mum forcing me to swallow stuff. I was soooooo weak. I'm also super skinny , I wouldn't last long uh

Fortunately, probably not longer than a day or two at most.

Just under a week, probably 6 days. I was very ill and if I tried to eat anything I'd throw it all back up almost instantly. So I just didn't eat until I got better.

    • Ouch, that doesn't sound fun at all. Did you have to refeed yourself gradually afterwards, or was it easy to eat normally again?

It wasn't fun at all; we were on holiday in a different country (it wasn't a tropical bug or anything, just something I managed to catch in the airport) so I missed a week in the sun and because I was bed-ridden and didn't get to go outside I never adjusted properly to the jet lag which made me feel even worse. I think it only took me about a couple of days to get back to my full appetite afterwards, but I don't have a very large appetite at the best of times.

8-10 days, recently, too. I had my tonsils removed in August and it was torture. Not only because of the pain, but I was extremely nauseous as well due to the mucous I was swallowing on an empty stomach. It was the worst thing I've ever been through.

    • I'm sorry, that sounds horrible. Did you manage to get down any supplements or anything? When you started eating again, was it hard?

Thank you, I'm all better now :D! Nope, no supplements whatsoever. Only water and even that was excruciating. It was absolutely dreadful, looking back, I honestly don't know how I made it through alive lol.

I was able to eat a little the day of surgery and the day after, meaning, I began eating again on day 12 or 13 or so. I had beef ramen. My tastebuds were really off due to the surgery so, it tasted pretty bad but I was so hungry and it was fairly easy to get down. I ended up losing 18 pounds within the time frame.

To this day, really sweet things still taste a bit weird when they hit the back of my mouth.

I can't go very long without eating, probably somewhere in the realm of a day and a half or two. I don't know how long I could really go, I've actually puked from going too long without food before. Damn acid reflux.

    • Wow, I didn't know acid reflux could do that. I don't know very much about acid reflux, though.

I voted a week but I forgot it was 1 and a half. The reason for this is I was trying to lose weight. It was years ago though. I was 14. 7 years ago to be exact.

Basically it's when your stomach produces too much acid, so the acid will get up into your esophagus where there isnt the same kind of mucus membrane to protect it.

And apparently when there's too much bile in your stomach it reacts the way it would if you had eaten something bad... "Everybody out!"

For years, I only ever ate at weekends, so it was five days every week. Longest is probably only seven or eight days. After that point, I start finding it a huge effort just to get upstairs. I may have gone longer but I don't remember it.

I've shed more than my share of tears over the course of my many years. Desiccated ducts I now possess and for the most part I could'nt care less.
