What's more true about getting far in a career?

Yeah it can be both but personally I think being passionate is more important. It's about who really wants it more because you know they will make the best of it at that job and the company. If you're just really smart, yeah you can contribute a whole lot but if you are not as passionate and you're just there because you got lucky, well it's not fair. I am a very passionate person especially for what I want to do. I might not be the brightest in fact I'm slow, just be patient with me, but I care enough. It sucks when someone beats someone else because they were smarter. But I understand why they got the job in the first place. Yet, for me its about who wants to be there more. Of course both is awesome. But we're talking about one or the other.

Above all else you have got to work smart. You also need enough passion to continually try to work at the top of your abilities, and experience the "flow" of self-actualization.

It truley depends on your career feild. I would never let a stupid, yet passionate doctor slice me open, lest I end up pooping out of my mouth. However, with regards to most jobs, I'd say passion, motivation and a desire to learn beats out smarts, hands down.

I would think that being passionate about your work might make it too important in your life. It's always nice to have a job you like, but it really shouldn't take up more than about 25% of your life. Your family and leisure time are things that you need to be passionate about, but work is a necessary evil that intelligence will help more. Passion leads to rash decisions, which in many cases can lead to mistakes and in some professions, injury or death.

  • slowness might not be a bad thing, to be considered and methodical with a desire to succeed sounds ok to me
