Harry Potter could kick Edward's sparkly gay ass any day of the week. Twilight is a book that pre-teen girls who are too lazy to read a real book pick up when they want some glorified fanfiction.
Harry Potter is a book that people of all ages can pick up and become immersed in. It's filled with action, adventure, drama, some romance...it's got everything. Twilight's just...a book.

The Dark is Rising Sequence by Susan Cooper and Anne Rice's Lestat series. Those are better, along the same themes, and precede the shit we see today.
