What's a reason someone would temporarily be in hospital?
I'm writing a novel and I need one of my characters to be temporarily in hospital for a few days and am contemplating what I should say is the cause lol.
Thanks if you have any suggestions.

Oh I have a classic one you should use -
The character is suppose to go on a date this Friday but wants to flake out. So he or she says their best friend is in the hospital.
Lame-ass cliche excuse but anyways maybe you could somehow work that in, even if no one is in the hospital.
People here are suggesting ideas and there are plenty to go around, but be careful with conservation of detail. Depending on the context, if an important character is in the hospital for a while, your readers would probably expect it to be important in some way - so don't just choose anything.
Could I hear more about your story? I might be able to give better advice that way.
I used to be an interpreter so I used to go to the hospital all the time. Common reasons would be, gallbladder or appendix surgery. Also a car accident or skiing accident. Child birth?
Severely broken leg
Beaten up by antifa
Car accident
Loan shark caught up with him
Head trauma, heavy surgery, transplantation, delivery just to name a few.
Got too drunk, vomited in the morning, couldn’t stop vomiting and went to the hospital for a round of Zolfran, pain meds, saline IV drip, and a hour or two of rest.
I have had this happen to me around 3 times in the past two years, and I didn’t die. It was painful as hell though going through it.
There are lots of reasons people end up in hospital, but picking something at random to use in your story seems a bit of a waste.
If it's not a main character, you could use the reason for the hospital stay and the protagonist's reactions to it as a way of highlighting some aspect of their personality, adding to their backstory, or moving the plot forward.
