Well the home I've lived in my whole life; my parents house I should say. We happen to live in a very small neighborhood in a woods. We mostly here birds chirping and whistling and other wild animals making sounds. But then we also have our crazy neighbor. This lady has about 7 kids and they all look like children of the corn. They have almost white hair and blue eyes. They are always screaming and getting into trouble, their mom never watches them and doesn't know how to take care of them one bit.

But then at my apartment in the town where my college is at I always here sirens and traffic. There is never a day you don't hear a cop coming through. There happens to be a state route that comes right through the middle of the town though so of course it's loud.

Talking and yelling. I live in kind of a low-income area and there are a lot of children, welfare recipients and jobless running around here causing whatever havoc. My neighborhood is not dangerous but it gets noisy.

Sometimes this weird chanting wakes me up at night. I can't tell if it is a homeless guy talking to himself or a Hindu guy praying. And down the hallway are two domestic dispute couples. So fucking annoying. Just kick her out already, Goddam, she doesn't pay rent.

Next is sirens. Always some motherfuckers getting shot down the street.

The idiot neighbours from the next building who decide it's a good idea to have domestics/sex/both at the same time on their balcony. Usually around 1am. That, or their loud music.

Or the other neighbour who decides to 'sing' like a siren and brutally butcher any music she comes across. Seriously, pick a fucking note and stick to it, each word does not need to waver over 10 fucking notes. Idiot. Seen her busking in the local supermarket. Very hard not to go up and kick her.

Absolutely nothing during the day! Our house is in the middle of our 1,300 acres of land. At night you can hear frogs and crickets and about 12am-5am on some nights you can hear the coyotes yap and howl

I live in a city, that is really a suburb of a much larger city. So all in all, it's pretty peaceful here. During the day you can hear the basics: some traffic, the barking of dogs and people talking. Sometimes you'll hear the occasional saw going off or any type of tool that's being used.

At night you don't hear too much. I do live next to a highway, so usually I hear that and the 4 AM train that goes by.

Kids playing in the morning (when there is no school) and dogs barking in the late afternoon. Also, the occasional owner who always yells, "Shut up" to her barking dog, which sometimes annoys me more than the dog.

  • I hear wind, branches, wild animals, people talking and playing basketball, dogs barking, the train going past, and at least once a month, someone cutting down a tree or doing some construction. It's a pretty quiet place... except for the construction. There's always some drainage problems where they have to dig up someone's whole yard.

I shouldn't complain though. It's way noisier in other places. I don't know if I'd get used to it if I grew up in the city or in an apartment or if I'd have crazy anger issues.

    Depends which home.

Home home - traffic. We're by a busy road.

Home away from home - seagulls. I f*cking hate seagulls.

I live in the boonies and my neighbors "way over yonder" enjoy firing guns in the middle of the night and shattering many an eardrum with the obnoxious twanging of Kenny Chesney and Shania Twain.

    Boo :'(

mixture: mostly traffic in the distance. dog barking (sometimes it's mine barking at people who come up), sometimes the maintenance people working on the grounds.

although i tend to notice more now that the dog's here cos she picks up on lots of little sounds. better than any alarm system

Wild animals and wind rustling trees/plants. Birds especially. Then I would say sirens, kids playing baseball, and gun shots.

        • That's weird, I try to not ask dumb questions so I googled it first and got such a varied answer so I'm sorry I just HAD to ask....This is seriously the most varied and weirdest thing I've ever googled. From dog food-oven-car-cell phone and then some, yeah, I was clueless. I kept imagining the pet owner shaking food into the pets bowl, which would make noise. or a cell phone ringing, or a car peeling out....wow. Really didn't know.
