What kind of camera should i get?

Hi! I'm supposed to be taking a photography class during the summer and they say that I'll need to get a professional camera before that. The only "camera" I have is iPhone 4. I'm supposed to get it over the weekend, but I don't know which to get. I don't know the budget either so, in your opinion which is the better brand for a beginner?

    I'd recommend a Canon Rebel, it's what I use. But I'd also recommened experimenting with a LOMO camera. Very unique way to capture images.

    Lecia. If you can afford one, they are worth it. Plus everything made in Germany is quality :)

    I would recommend Nikon, coming from favorable personal experience.

    I've tried Pentax and Cannon cameras before, but I guess I prefer the layout of Nikon menus. They're all relatively similar in terms of build quality and image clarity. DSLR cameras can be really expensive, so whatever you buy, do a little research online first.
