Claire is my real name. I am named after my grandmother whose name was Clarissa. Grandma said to my mum "For gods sake dont call her Clarissa, it sounds pompous and pretentious. I always prefferd Clair"
So thats what mum called me. My gran was the best and I am proud to be named after her and would not have minded if my name was Clarissa.
She was a great woman who lived through the second world war and took in German refugees during the war because no one else would. They escaped their own country because they didnt support Hitlers regime and were seen as Jewish sympathisers and were also put to death if they were caught. Most of them had to report to the police on a regular basis in case they turned out to be spies so instead of loading them all up on a truck once a week and driving them to town, she told the police he he could come for dinner on wednesday nights and see them then but he had to bring his own plates and cutlery if he wanted to be fed because she didnt have enough.
