How is the number of comments a bellwether for how successful a post is? Most high comment posts are the result of 2 or 3 users having an argument which is almost always off topic anyway.
I would think a successful post would be one where you as the OP had a legitimate problem, and someone gave you some some information to help you solve it. I would be happier if a post got only one responce but it helped than get 500 useless ones.
How shallow and needy do you have to be to to base success on the number of comments?
You are subjectively focusing on quality. I am focusing on quantity. I like raucous crude witty discourse. Number of comments indicates neither. To this I say, "So what?".

Yes that is exactly what I just said. You are basing success on quantity, and my opinion is that quantity is a shallow indicator of success that suggests a person is very needy. Specifically needy for attention. Other than adding a comment to the "success" of your post, I am not sure what your response added to the conversation. All you did was tell me what I said, which obviously I was already aware of.

I made a post called something like IIN there is an IIN underground that said it had about 90 comments, but when I looked through them it only looked like about 30. I was confused.

If I had the ability to show you guys the post I did it, it was in the 100s.
It wasn't even a proper post but a mere word association that went for quite a long time until the shutdown in 2009.
I scored 98 with one of my rants bout Muslims taking over.
My biggest achievement was 'is it normal women worship me like a God' 67 comments and 98 votes.
Biggest disappointment 'Iin the great poop experiment went horriblely wrong' a lousy 18 replys, the thing that hurts most was you thought I was trolling, it was a life changing event for me.
