    A free download can also be a legal download - some artists offer their music for free or pay-whatever-you-want-including-nothing.

    In my opinion, everything should be free to use, copyright is just a way to force people to pay for something that is freely available almost everywhere for free.

    Personally I use Youtube for most of my music.

    I prefer to buy my music online because I can get exactly the songs I want without having to buy the whole album, where I probably won't like but half of the songs on it. Plus, by buying music, I'm supporting the artists who made it, so that they can keep on making good music. I also listen to a lot of music on Youtube.

    Even though CDs can get scratched and are harder to keep up with, their sound quality is WAY better than an ipod

    If the "legal" download is at or above CD level, then yes, but otherwise, CD. I don't really care much for iTunes and I feel that your "free" option implies illegality. Now a free, legal download...check mate!

    CD. I hate the digital format, but I do like listening to music on Youtube and Soundcloud. When, I was a child my mother would play vinyl and cassettes. I liked them even though I can't really remember their quality. Something I did hate about Vinyl was that the volume always seemed to be loud for some reason.

    What's wrong with live performance? If you hear the Vienna Philharmonic playing Tchaikowsky, chances are that when you hear the timbres, the tonal colors, the interesting harmonies, the tempo variations, the dynamics, and the pitch ranges of various instruments employed in the orchestration, you will like the music even if you didn't care for it on recordings.
