What is the perfect gift idea?

Yes all of these would be enjoyed very much and I already got him a gift certificate for the Corvette store. I just want to do something more...
What would you choose? Is it normal to have such trouble choosing the perfect gift?

remote control helecopter with camera 5
NBA Lakers play-off game tickets 15
all-clad pan 0
handsfree car speakerphone 2
ipod classic 5
cash 12
laser tag set 2
rice crispy treats 5

As much as that sounds perfect in an ideal world, I know for a fact most people would be disappointed if that's all they got for their birthday :P

"Honey, I've got your present! Come into the bedroom!"
"OOH PRESENT! Hey it... it's you. Naked, with a red bow"
"Yeah!" *closes door* "I figured, what gift could possibly be better than me, naked, all yours?"
"Yeah... yeah of course! I mean... I already have you, naked, all mine, pretty much every night. But... Obviously this is special because... You have a bow around you!"
"Exactly! And I'm going to do lots of naughty things to you..."
"Like you do anyway... But yes what a... GREAT present. Thank you for... you."
      "You're welcome"

It's a nice way to make the night fun, but unless it's your first time, it's like giving you something you already have whilst but putting you in an impossible position where showing disappointment would cause a lot of drama.

      • Love this comment the most! It is true...while I love to add this to his gift (presentation is important, after all) and hear,'Mmm! Special sex!' It isn't the gift itself.
This will certainly be the best birthday he has had in a very long time. And his other beards were so because he made them that way for himself.

There can't be a man on this planet who wouldn't be overjoyed at a remote control helicopter with a camera on it.

There also can't be many men who don't, at some point, think about using it for mischief.

You in sexy lingerie. With rice crispy treats in hand. Duh.

Or take sexy pics on corvettes for him....minus the rice crispy treats.

  • So I decided:
Tickets for two to the Laker's game, as well as a new controller and the game called Driver for his PS3.
And what a thank you I got. *blush*

  • OP here, just wanted to say a bit about the options here. First of all, I did already get him a gift certificate for car parts but here is more abou the other options:
Lakers are his favorite team and they will be coming to our area to play on his b-day. He has been treated to a game before on his b-day. Cash was an idea because his property tax is due that month and always has him feeling so stressed.
Rice krispy treats because I am the only one who would special order fat-free sugar-free marshmellows to make him a treat he misses...and because I worry that maybe another big gift on top of the car parts gift certificate could be too much gifting for him. The remote control helecopter or laser tag set simply because they are fun and he likes that kind of thing.
The car speakerphone because is is easy and he can use it without the fuss of the Bluetooth I gave him. Ipod classic because I can get it engraved and his current one he wants to replace.
And the stainless steel fry pan because it is the best out there, he won't buy it for himself and he needs it.

Threesomes are always a good gift.

For you, of course it would be cash.

I usually try and give gifts that are as personal or personalised as possible. Something that clearly shows I know what the person is interested in is usually a safe bet.

So which out of the list would mean the most to him? What is he most interested in?

The good thing about an event like the "NBA Lakers play-off game" is that it's not materialistic. If you go together, that's a great shared experience that he'll remember. It's something he can't dispose of, something that won't run out of batteries or become obsolete. It'll (hopefully) be a fond memory that'll make that birthday particularly special. So an event relating to something he's really interested in is a great idea :)

You can never go wrong with cash, but some people might overthink your gift-giving and think you didn't really care about what you wanted to get if you give cash, so be careful.

there is no "perfect" gift really - not one that fits all people.

balance what you can afford with what you know your friend or partner wants the most. and remember to consider that needs might also work better than wants for the gift too

Hm, hard to say since I don't know the person you're buying something for. I wouldn't give him cash, though. It's too impersonal.

  • Why was "hooker" not one of the choices? Thats the gift that keeps on giving...STD's that is.

Those gift ideas suck, btw. Totally unoriginal. Go cheap, he'll probably dump you after getting the crappy generic gift you pick.

Rice crispy treats... Lakers play off tickets. Such range you have. Hands free car set seems like a solid gift though.

Good choice! That's a very fine bottle of cognac you have there. Very fine indeed. I'd recommend Martell as well, if you haven't tried it.
