I want to say Mississippi. Just from every person that I have spoken to that has lived in Mississippi... I don't know how to explain what it means when you live in an area (i.e. the south as I did) and you learn things that people outside of the area typically wouldn't know, and one of the things I have learned was that Mississippi and Lousianna (I'm not even going to bother trying to spell that) are highly Confederate states.

In addition, parts of Alabama (not all of it, but parts) are racist as a norm (generally the further our you get and the less populated it becomes but don't quote me on that), some parts of Georgia, some more isolated areas of NC... fuck, forget all of that. If you're in a small town anywhere in the US, the education system is sub par and the population is mainly white, there's a good chance that you're in a pretty racist area. Even here in Cali. Good chance. But especially LA and MS.

Next to that, you'll find a lot of anti-white racism in Florida. You can quote me on THAT.

North Florida is full of confederate flags, though.

I think when it comes to Confederate flags, I think it's not really about racism, I'm pretty sure it's about being proud to be a part of their state, and being a part of the South. So it's more of a Southern pride thing than a racist thing

Speaking as a Southerner, it definitely is racist. When the confederate flag was added to the Georgia state flag, it was added by a segregationist governor as a slap in the fact to the civil rights movement.

People flying the confederate flag might not always think of it that way, but the Confederacy was founded on racism.

"Our new Government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition." – Confederate Vice President Alexander Stephens, 1861

yea I was always confused about that, the excuse I would hear is its a source of southern pride, that would be like me from cali wearing a san Francisco superbowl victory tshirt, they lost, the confedracy surrenderd uncondtionally, thats is the biggest lost you can achieve in war, besides the fact most confederate soldiers where not even slave owners, they where jist convinced they where fighting for freedom, lol still happens today

          • True. I agree.
When we went to Florida and were driving from the airport there, he flipped off the large Confederate Flag...Not that that holds any weight, haha.
I would say more, but I really have no more knowledge about racist states other than "The South" being the origin of racism in the States anyway.

But I like that you quoted Stephens *applauds*
Makes your statement stronger huh huh

The part that borders Alabama, I'm aware that that part is a little hick, but when you're talking about the whole of Florida, anti-white racism is pretty prevalent there. Even people from Caliberalfornia that I have spoken to that have visited FL have noticed.

My apologies if I implied that "Confederate" was synonymous with "racist". However, LA and MS are very Confederate in the sense that they are highly anti-union and they are also racist.

Lynxikat is dead on when she says it's more of a Southern pride thing than anything. Some of those states take it way too far, however.

Ah. Most of the people I hung around that used the Confederate flag used it as a symbol of southern pride and were not racist in the least sense but used it as a symbol of traditional southern values.

I don't disagree with any of your points though. I know that many people who do use the Confederate flag are racist and they use it as a method of showing their defiance against the diversity movement.

The more segregated a state is, the more racist it tends to be. Even a state with a high minority population can still be quite racist depending on the distribution of the population. For this reason, I think many Northern states are really more racist than some Southern ones. I'm from Upstate NY and most people I know are racist because they rarely encounter minorities and honestly, when they do it tends to be a negative encounter. It's easier for one community to have disdain for another when they're separate from each other.

Texas is like heaven compared to the eastern southern states like Alabama, North Carolina, and Florida.

A good friend of mine was from a small city in Alabama. Lawd have mercy on his soul for the things he experienced because of his skin color.

The general finding is the more rural the city is, the more homozygous the people are. Anything different is bad to them.

I live in Texas, and I have experienced racism. Usually from the older "white" citizens. (Not to generalize because there are really educated and amazing people in all categories) They probably were raised that way, and never learned to adapt to the changing social environment. Usually from the younger generation, you experience subtle categorizing. For example, in the southern states people identify others by their race. Or at least it seems that way to me.

Honestly, growing up I thought it was normal, and didn't realize how colloquial racism is until I went to visit cousins in a northern state.

I really don't like how dominating the false concept of race is in the southern culture but If you don't like it, then just move to the big cities.

Are you older than me by any chance? Though parts of many cities are really ghetto (they train battlefield medics in South Central LA), and trains to Wall Street til '89 had at least one layer of grafitti, parts of some cities are full of middle/upper class passers-by and very uncrimey. You'd probably be safer there than in rural Montana where the cops are far away, unless you had a gun, and even then that's no guarantee.

Of course Atlanta is different. It's a city. Much like how Miami or Tampa is different. I live in Florida, and where I'm sitting people are more racist against whites, but not nearly as much as what I saw against blacks in Georgia.

Of course West Virginia was bad too. It was more of a mutual hatred of the races, however.

Texas was the first state to come to mind, but maybe it's just the most populated of the southern states. I think there are pockets of racist and non-racist people in all states. Even Oregon has a very dirty past and still has a presence of racism, but the state isn't known for it. At least not anymore. But good luck finding racial diversity.
