-40. Look at my name and you'll understand. Just looked it up and apparently I live in one of the coldest cities in the world hahahaha. It is sort of strange considering it often gets up to about 90 during the summer.

    • It's insane that people put up with those temps! I live in the Northeast US and we get occasional cold snaps in the -10 to -15 range and that is brutal, I can't imagine -40.

No, in a tropical island. We had a real bad winter and the temperature dropped to this^ :)

my aunt lives on an island. not a tropical one, but the coldest it ever gets there is 58.
until last year. last December, they got 2 days when it got down to 27 degrees (and it was almost 50 for me! that day) the islanders were so unprepared, most of the buildings had plumbing problems, many wrecks (for those that dared drive. (no one has a 4x4, or even knows how to drive in the snow. she pulled a couple drivers out of a ditch with her van) most of the houses don't even have central heat cause it never gets cold there. she was prepared though, considering she grew up and lived until recently in Missouri.

We don't need central heat here. We'll never do I think.

I'm not surprised at 60.3 degrees. I've been in the upper midwest in the USA when it was at least 28 below zero.

i remember about 4 years ago, they were talking on the news about -30 in north Dakota and about -36 in most of Minnesota. it was -10 that day for folks here in the st louis area.

about the coldest I've known. -10. happened a couple of times.
once, in 2007, i was up 6am headed to the bus stop for school. and again in 2010 or 2011, Both times in January. the second time, the bridge that connects our backyard and driveway (there divided by a creek with a cliff overlooking the creek. our backyard, besides what the house sits on, is a hill.) fell when water cracked the rock holding the bridge up.

It was somewhere between -20 and -30. This is with wind chill. It's not uncommon for the weather to drop below 0 in my hometown.

It hit single digits in Nuevo Mexico 2 years ago but lets face it, I wasn't exposed to it because no way in hell I'd go outside even with rolling blackouts...my apartment was still warmer. Anyways, the coldest I've actually been exposed was a playoff football game in Wisconsin that was mid January. It was probably 20-30 degrees Fahrenheit with a couple inches of snow on everyone's head. Couldn't really see the game and if someone near me got up to go pee or something...game over. So, I was exposed for about 4 hours. Great times :)

It was for a school travel program. I also remember that our little tour bus had just enough heat to keep the front window clear of ice but the inside windows were caked in ice as we drove around on pure ice. We sat in each other's laps to keep warm. I try to remember that experience when I complain about being cold.

It was a pretty rural area and I'm not sure how people heated their homes. The restaurants in the area had little space heaters at the tables and were only open a few hours a day. Not many had vehicles. I was quite impressed with the people who rode bicycles on the ice. They didn't even have tires for their bikes, just the metal rims!

    • Couman

FYI, Google has a built-in conversion tool. Just "search" for "-43 C in F" (without quotes) or whatever. It can also do "100 km in miles", "2 tablespoons in ml", "13 light years in fathoms" and various similar things.

      Comment Hidden ( show )
  • -27 F. Ice crystals formed over bodies of water so heavily that it blanketed the ground nearby like snow...but the sky was clear.

was that the water or the air temperature?

      Comment Hidden ( show )
        -
      • Darkoil

That was the water temperature in degrees centigrade, and it wasn't frozen because it was salt water. I could be wrong it might have been -10 now I come to think about it, I would have to ask my cousin first.
