What is a normal amount of chores?

What sort of chores did you do/do you do as a teenager? I’ve always felt like I do an awful lot, just curious how many/what kinds other people do.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I didnt have conventional chores as a kid. My chores were things like changing oil or helping to build a shed. As long as I cleaned up after myself and washed dishes if I cooked nothing was said.

    Can you list your chores?

    • Daily Chores:
Get my sister’s ready for school
Make my sister’s lunch for school
      Laundry (ours and grandparents)
Clean everyone’s rooms and make their beds
Make breakfast and lunch (ours and sometimes grandparents)
      Cook dinner (ours and grandparents)
      Vacuuming in the morning
Vacuuming in the evening (usually vacuum, use disinfectant on the carpet, then vacuum again)
Dishes in the morning and evening
      Polish woodwork and furniture
Iron my parent’s clothes for work
Usually spend the evening helping my sister’s with their homework and with tutoring (I actually enjoy this one though)
      Disinfect countertops
Scrub the bathtub, toilet, and sinks
Clean house in the morning, afternoon, and evening (my sister’s and parents are terrible about putting things where they belong so this usually takes a half hour in the morning and an hour the second and third time)
Get my parent’s bath ready (they both like certain things to be ready for them when they get in the shower)
Get things ready for when they come home (they like their tablets to be clean, a cold drink, and something to eat when they get home)
“Square everything” (my father is really, really adamant that everything on tables/counters/etc is “lined up”, so a couple of times a day I go around and make sure everything is stacked just so and all)

      I also:
Take out the trash for us and my grandparent’s
Sponge the kitchen floors every other week
Scrub the oven, microwave, freezer, and fridge once a week
Yard work over the summer and fall (weeding, bush trimming, leaf blowing, that sort of thing)
Take care of bills and finances
Wash towels and sheets for our home and my grandparents once a week
Bathe my sister’s pets and grandparents pet’s once a week, and brush them
Walk our dog’s and grandparent’s dog
Spring cleaning once a week or so (like I said, they’re terrible about cleaning after themselves so usually 3 or 4 hours of cleaning one day every week or so to keep things organized)
      Vacuuming the car
Clean out the fridge (we have a lot of leftovers so once or twice a week I go through the fridge and pantry, throw away anything too old to eat, and make a list of what needs to be bought at the store)
Babysit my youngest sister (change all the diapers, brush her teeth, bathe her, put her to bed, etc)
Do “couponing” (go through the paper and collect any useful coupons)
Manage my mother’s customers (with her job customers call in complaints and requests that have to be filed and written down)
Go to work with my father 3-4 months out of the year overnight
      Polish the bathroom mirror
Organize the pantry once a week or so
Wash our dining room table tablecloth twice a week
      Empty the ashtrays every morning

And basically serve as a handmaid (if my parents need a tissue, I get them a tissue, if they want a snack, I get them a snack, if they want a cigarette, I get them a cigarette, if my father doesn’t feel like getting up to go to the bathroom, I bring him a bucket (and I am ABSOLUTELY serious about this))

There are also a lot of other odd things my parents come up with to fill in the day (for instance, yesterday they wanted all of their shoes scrubbed, then washed in the washer, the blinds to be cleaned, the undoes to be cleaned, and all of the light-switches and doorknobs to be disinfected)

Like zero. Every daily chore is a burden you're allowing to happen. You cant have zero chores on a daily basis but you should always strive for the bare minimum of stuff to do.

Cleaning up after myself, keeping my room tidy, helping set up the table, taking out the trash and buying any groceries my mom forgot to buy from the nearby store.
Sometimes going to the store thee times in a row, cause she had forgotten something. Hated doing the store run.
(Now, aged 26 and when home, I gladly do that task for my mom, cause I can drive to the store)

I'd occasionally put dishes in the dishwasher, but that's about it.

    Trying to stay alive haha
No well, I did my own food, sometimes the dishes and mostly my mother was one of those tiger moms so my week was packed with other stuff. When I moved to my father I had to cook for us both and do the laundry

At the very minimum, clean up after yourself: eg your own room; don't leave your stuff lying around everywhere in the common spaces; leave the bathroom clean and tidy after yourself, ditto the toilet; help grownups with outside work; take your turn at clearing the table after meals and organising dishwashing.
