What is a “graveyard shift”? and what hours is it usually?

What hours would you consider “3rd shift” at a job? Or if your job was “24 hours always open”: What hours would be the “graveyard shift”? Or the late hours? I hear people say like 10pm-6am? Or like 12am-8am? Or maybe like 11pm-7am? What hours on clock would you say is “FOR SURE” marked as “graveyard shift” working hours? Thanks

Graveyard shift imo, would be all three of the shifts you mentioned.

Any shift that inclusively has 12 midnight to about 5am I would say is a graveyard shift.
When I was younger I worked a lot of them including the 3 you mentioned. The shift can start earlier or end later doesn't matter. However, a shift that doesn't start untill 3am or one that ends at 2 or 3am are not normally considered graveyard shifts.

    Just my opinion!

Isn't Target a clothing store? Or is it a supermarket?

What supermarket is open 24/7? Also who goes shopping in the middle of the night? Seems kinda weird to me. Most stores in Europe close around 9-10PM and open at 7-8AM

Target is closed to customers from 10pm to 8am. It has overnight employees who unload the freight, and employees who stock merchandise during that time. It's a quiet shift with no Karens to bother us.

There’s no exact time frame. But we all know what overnight means. I would say that almost any “graveyard shift” will involve working at midnight. I used to work a 12 hour graveyard shift from 5 pm to 5 am.

Whichever shift starts before the morning shift. Assuming there are 3 shifts in a day, if the first starts at 8am, the second shift would start at 4pm, the "graveyard shift" would start at midnight. The second shift is often referred to as swing shift.

Graveyard shifts essentially just means you're working throughout the night. You arrive at night and leave in the morning.
