What film adaptation of a book do you feel did the book justice?

For me, it was the 1984 version of 1984. John Hurt was perfectly cast as Winston. The movie was exactly how I pictured the book when reading it. But that doesn't happen often. What movie do you think translated well (or even, better) onscreen?

I wish they had made a higher quality adaptation of Eragon. That movie SUCKED. The series had a lot of potential for a solid film. I wish every fantasy movie was as good as LOTR is.

Fight club, apart from that admittedly stupid bit of CCTV showing him being dragged, it's the only adaptation that actually captured what I had in my mind

Oh, I forgot the green mile, maybe that a close second, I don't count the adaptation of Rita Hayworth and the shawshank redemption or stand by me the adaptation of the body because they were both novellas

I'm still waiting to see a film that is as good as the book.

The Crow. Very different approach in story, but conveyed the message and emotion very well.

There's a book of Reefer Madness? Is it as insanely and ridiculously funny as the movie?

Sorry. I just made that up. But hey, someone must have written a script for it, so in a sense there is.

Was Sharknado really a book or is that a joke? Lol

Haha I was sure it had to be, if Sharknado was a book it would be a 10 year old boy author haha

    • I'm not totally sure it worked but damn I take my hat off to Snyder for trying that and I think he did the best he could do with the limitations of the medium.

I actually prefer the film to the comics.

The only movie I've seen where I also read the book was the Maze Runner. It was good, but not as good as the book. It would have been as good as the book if they didn't change the story so much.

Was the 1984 vision of 1984 really good? I downloaded it but haven't gotten around to watching it (yes I read the book too).

    • It is good, very bleak and depressing just like the book. I thought it captured the books essence well.

Dan brown books. Not the greateat writer or movies, but I'm pretty sure he wrote them so they could adapt easily. It was all about making money off an idea.

no country for old men were one of the most strictly faithful to the book movies i seen
the godfather stuck to the book and were a decent adaptation too

Well, I don't happen to read books. I'm perfectly aware that they have great value of leisure, knowledge and cerebral workout but on the other hand they consume too much time and cerebral power in comparison with movies where you can view the work of months/years and millions of dollars of investment in just a couple of hours and move on to the next one.
