What feels satisfying to you?

I'm not some weirdo troll or anything.
One of the things I find satisfying is eating a buttery, chocolate chip muffin with a tall glass of milk. How about you lovely people?

Working on my cars. There is something very relaxing and very satisfying about working on your own car, with a cold beer within reach and 80s music on the stereo.

That's how I get lost in my own world.
And once you have fixed something, or successfully replaced it and your car works better, you get a sort of "Aahhh" feeling. Like sitting in a very comfortable chair after a hard day's work, or having a cold drink on a really hot day when you are really thirsty.

  • I don’t really find much comfort in food tbh. But one thing I enjoy wasting my time doing is working on cars. I have some parts I’m waiting to come in the mail but in the mean time I’ve been super interested in fixing rust and other body work fun stuff.

I found this plastx headlight cleaner at walmart for like $6 because my headlights clear coat has given out, my lights were getting a little cloudy and bugging me so I got this shit from walmart and boom 2 minutes later them bitches look new. I’ve been going crazy with it. Never found such a great product without sanding. I’ve done about 6 peoples cars within the past week. I keep running into people ik who have cloudy headlights. Idk why I find it so fun but it feels great to see a instant change I guess. I love painting too it’s so enjoyable to me.

I got a p0128 code so my thermostat is stuck open at the moment and I’m kinda excited to replace it. Also really glad it’s stuck open and not closed I’ve had enough side of the road overheating incidences.

I got someones car I’m trying to fix but waiting for a ignition coil to come in. It won’t start and I can hear the fuel pump and think the distributors are working okay. MAF sensor isn’t the problem and I don’t see a vacuum leak anywhere. Timing should be okay really hoping that’s not the problem cause the chain is going to be a bitch to get to and if it’s broken well, it’s a gonner. Everything is leaning towards spark being the problem so I ordered a ignition coil and will pick up a spark plug to try out. Can’t wait to hear it start up or at least hoping it will.

When I was home for Easter I got the time to work on my E24, car is now ready with all the paint stuff, I've installed a new, lowered suspension, did some more engine work, installed upgraded brakes and an upgraded sound system. Not a ghetto one that stands out, mine fits in behind the original pannels, but is better.
Still looking for new lights and possibly Euro bumpers...

Buddy of mine, also E24 owner came to visit and his 635CSI is also a US-spec and I found I'm starting to like the US-spec bumpers. With some care to make the black plastic and rubber shine, maybe she'll look good. Also not too many US spec cars in Europe.

Question... Should I go for an original 80s BMW radio, cause mine has an aftermarket one? But then I won't have mp3s... I could do that mp3 cassette thing to keep the original look and still have my music. But then I gotta have a remote lying around...

Here is a quick video of my 635CSI starting... Runs a little rough, but she starts first time, so I'll sort it out... Took the video before the suspension and brake work as I wanted to take the car for a spin around the neighborhood XD

I also took my S-class to an old guy that specializes in rust removal and dents. He's gonna fix everything for 300 Euros. Sweet! Found and bought a cheap AMG bumper and AMG mount for my S600.
The old dude says he'll need about 2 months to get the job done, he isn't fast, but he's really good and cheap. So just in time for my summer vacation, the S-class will be ready for painting.

Cool that you are restoring headlights. It's actually a calming thing to do. I've restored my girlfriend's BMW's headlights and it's one of the most relaxing things I've done, next to fishing.

PS: thermostat issues, probably got that on my C-class, tho no code... I hardly ever see the temp gauge go past 80C. Only when I drive like a hooligan it sits at 90C. If I'm going downhill for too long, temp can drop to 60C. Probably gonna swap out the thermostat this summer in Bulgaria.

Also on the issue of the car not starting, check the camshaft and crankshaft sensors. Crankshaft one prevents starting at any temp, camshaft one usually prevents the engine from starting when it's warm.
I know that one from experience XD

      • Awesome sounds like you got a lot done. My front speakers blew but I have a sub woofer to install It'll sure look ghetto with that. I'd rather have a smaller one that would stick under the seat and be less spacious. US spec bumpers look good to me.

I think a 80's one would look nice give it more of the original look. But that's true then you have a remote. Maybe it'll still be worth it to have one sitting around. Worth a try?

I love that old sound, at least you've got it starting right up I bet it looks badass lowered.

Good deal and perfect timing you always find the best people to help you out.

It is super relaxing and this plastx stuff works fast. I'd love to do some more detailing just waiting for a nice warm day. I'm so excited to do that.

I actually had no idea you could get codes for thermostats it surprised me. I didn't notice any differences at all. Speaking of thermostats I found a old video of my Shitzuki overheating. It was pouring out of my upper radiator hose and getting on my belt it was squeeling like crazy so I pulled over and smoke went everywhere. I remember I was at a parking lot and people came over and were just looking at my car I had a huge coolant puddle just everywhere. It was super awkward but they were talking to me when I was trying to get a video of how terrible that pile was so my video skills were shitty in this. https://imgur.com/a/ICYcieR I swear this was what my old car looked like just about every week. One thing after another.

Thanks for the tip I've actually had those two in mind and I don't know a whole lot on where those are even located. I take it probably close to the timing chain but I haven't taken much time to even find where the chain is it's gotta be hidden somewhere shitty to get to. I have a feeling it’s on the left side of the engine covered but ugh. I got some starter fluid I will spray in the throttle body to just test if fuel is truly something I can cross off of not a suspect. But it won't be the easiest thing in the world. Coil is coming in today but fucking Nissans I have to take out the air intake and throttle body + hoses just to take the shield off to get to the engine. They are all connected so I have to put it back together just to test each ignition coil. It was not getting enough air was running rich for a while but I'm not sure what else to check to see if it's getting enough air to start up. I'll figure it out eventually be nice to have a idea what's the true problem so I have a direction to go toward. I do think it's spark being the problem.
https://imgur.com/a/nINijJS look at that interesting design wish I got a code at least for whatever is happening. This will be a fun continuous put together and take apart.

Haha, you don't fool around with your audio to start blowing out speakers XD

I'm glad you like the sound. Getting that car to run has been a pain. She runs ok now tho, did a small test drive around the neighborhood with my girlfriend holding the front license plate and no front windshield. Still waiting for delivery...
Part came in 2 days after I left home.

Looks awesome lowered, gonna be even more badass when I find the right wheels.

I worked on the subwoofer with my dad. He is a lot better at woodworking and making stuff from scratch than me, so he built me a box according to the dimensions of the trunk, so I mounted the subwoofer in that and mounted an Alpine amplifier that sits between the two speakers and actually looks cool.
Now I gotta get some trunk lining and cover the wood and get some speaker cloth to cover the speakers for extra stealth XD

I do get robbed of a bit of trunk space, but I'm never gonna haul stuff in my E24, so I don't care. Two suitcases still fit in.

I also added two more speakers under the rear seats, facing forward. I had to cut out a bit of metal, to accommodate the speakers. Got a guy to make me a protective wire mesh, painted it white with spray paint and I then fitted it with white speaker fabric so it looks nice.

When you replied to me, I went to browse the forums and see what other BMW hotshots think and to find out what the original BMW radio looked like, as I had no idea. It looks awful and because of my audio upgrades an original unit is no longer compatible with my wiring. Most gurus suggest a whole bunch of Blaupunkts and Becker radios as those were also fitted standard to E24s.

I've ruled out the really old radios as they are gonna be a hassle to wire properly (if compatible) and I'm gonna need a Solisto box emulator in the glovebox to get mp3s and bluetooth.

Spent an hour trying to figure out how to cram in a Becker Indianapolis Pro unit in my E24. It's this gorgeous looking retro thing that even has a navigation
          https://ibb.co/pb6zPXp

There's gonna be a lot of swearing, before this thing is working properly, but look at it, it would look fantastic and my 30+ year old BMW would have as many features as a modern car... It would really be a test of patience, skill and probably my ability to get help from people that understand radios better than me XD

Tho the best and most logical solution would be a VDO head unit. It's got bluetooth, mp3, DAB+, usb and everything you'd want from a modern radio, it's cheaper and it's much easier to install. It's new, has a warranty and is fully compatible with modded speakers.
Here is one in a 6-series:
          https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-eQhS53xiPz4/UZ13tMqvZKI/AAAAAAAACSA/vMU9UQ_SiMw/s912/VDO%2520radio.jpg
The top model costs 222 Euro. I'd be ready in an hour...

The thing that irks me are those chrome dials... They'd be perfect in a Mercedes, but an E24 only has chrome on the door handles, so it looks out of place and I need to have a USB sticking out.
Only plus of the VDO is DAB+...

Think I'm gonna go with the Becker unit... I'll need to do more browsing, reading and studying...

Anyway, what did you do to that poor Shitzuki? Hahahaha! I have a feeling you drove the thing like you stole/ hate it XD

PS: Gotta love the Nissan design... That is not a mechanic-friendly engine. Ever since they made the merger with Renault, Nissan have gone downhill big-time. Bet putting that plastic pile of drudgery back together is gonna be fun.
I don't know, my last comment would be to also check the throttle position sensor. If it's not that, you gotta hook up the car to a proper diagnostic computer and get more info.

Do tell me what the issue was when you fix it tho.
I'm interested to find out the problem.

          • Sorry this is going to be long. So some things I picked up on was when trying to start it, it would smell like gas all around the car very strongly. But I saw no leak and fuel seemed okay.

And knowing it wasn’t getting enough air to begin with I checked the vacuum hoses they all seemed okay even tried a new MAF sensor because they were pretty cheap. Still no big sign of a problem.

So for the fuck of it I’m like let’s try spark. Putting the ignition coil in each one I got to the 3rd cylinder and it sounded like it wanted to catch better. For a second it actually started. So I figured maybe spark is the problem, thinking I’d be right for once. Not that it would of made the difference but I also replaced the spark plugs and, nothing. They did need to be replaced tho.

Should of done this first but I sprayed starter fluid in the throttle body while cranking and it actually seemed to help and it started. So then I’m thinking maybe fuel is the issue. Ran super rough and sounded funky. It kept trying to stall (which was originally a problem because it was to rich running but now worse) I had to rev it up some to keep it running and at one point the pedal was doing nothing. On top of that it wouldn’t rev over 2500 rpm. So turned it off disconnected the negative terminal and reput it on then it started again but ran a lot more normal. I was able to drive it a little and it seemed more okay. But the pedal and it not revving up seemed like a throttle issue.

Then I took my obd2 and hoped that once it was now started that hopefully codes came on to tell me what’s happening. Sure enough I finally had codes and all 9 were for the throttle body.

I put a new throttle body in and did the relearn air idle thingy and instantly the rpm’s after doing it and starting it up were regular, it idles good would rev up and shift great. But I notice once I turn the car off it’s like it doesn’t save because I go to start it again and it stalls and then starts up and goes all weird sounding all over again. But when I redo that relearn thing it’ll run good until I turn the car off again. I seriously am stuck at what the fuck is wrong with this thing. It’s fine after the relearn so I take it the throttlebody was the problem but idk why it won’t stay learned.

I have one last thing in mind to try if it’s even possible to help. So I don’t have a thing that will tell me if the battery is up to full voltage but the battery in it is not super strong and a little iffy. My battery in my car is fairly new so I’m going to just to try plug mine up and see if maybe that’s the problem. Because you need the battery at 12V or more for the relearn to work well I think I read. So unless it wont stay working because maybe the battery isn’t strong enough. But then again after the relearn it does work well after I do it then start it. Ahhh I’m stuck. BUT I did get it running and that’s good.

Thanks for the update. Low voltage could prevent a relearn... but it's good you found that the throttle body was the problem.
Test the battery with a multimeter to get a more precise voltage reading.

Tho it's kinda odd that codes didn't show up before starting the car. Normally previous faults are stored even if the car is off. At least Bmws and Mercedes store them...

When you said it ran super rough, I thought the fuel pump could be the problem, or even contaminated fuel.

Buddy of mine had a very similar issue with his old Mazda. Car won't start, if it does, runs very rough and has no power.

Problem was water and dirt in the fuel tank, due to rust and a failing fuel pump.

          • Ikik lesson learned. I bet that was a great feeling, first drive with it right?
Awe that sucks. At least it’ll be waiting for you.

And that’s a good idea I might just happen to accidentally steal that fancy idea.

That is a nice looking radio hahah well I’m sure it’ll be worth the hassle. Orange one does look better and would definitely fit it nicely.

😂 you know I hated that car. I was nice to it but it started being terrible so I beat on it. Wish I got some videos driving it before I sold it. See what it’s got then again I probably would of blew it up.

Oh yeah I think I heard scotty talk about that in a video. It’s got 250k on it I’m surprised it’s lasted this long it’s on it’s second engine. Idk about the transmission if it’s original but it’s a automatic and I’d be shocked if it’s original for a Nissan. At least for a automatic it isn’t the CVT. Really pretty bumbed out new Subaru’s now have a CVT at least if a automatic not that kind. Idk for sure but personally all I see is CVT being biggest problems. As it is automatic Subarus already get hate for being not very well made or something like that now this will probably become a definite common problem.

I did try unplugging the throttle body sensor and tried but it still wouldn’t start.

            I will, I’m interested too.

Edit: Just watched scottys new video on Subaru that he posted like 3 hours after I just mentioned the CVT and he’s over here right after, shit talking CVT. Well now ik scotty don’t like them either. But what does he like besides a 1990’s Toyota Corolla. Seems weird if someone just goes and gets a vehicle with a boxer engine not know the headgasket issue I feel like it’s well known. I didn’t really care the rumble enough is worth it. For a great car I’d be okay putting in the what like $1k every 100k miles.

Just saw the edit about Scotty now... Sorry.
Bored and going through stuff in iin...
Better late, than never right? XD

Guy only likes old Corollas... I get it, they run forever, but they are about as interesting as a bucket of lard. I'd rather have a slightly less reliable and more interesting car, than one that runs forever with an exterior only someone asleep would enjoy and an interior so dull, it makes the post office seem like an interesting place.

Anyway, I hate CVTs with a passion. Foot hard down and the engine goes "Uuuuuggggghhhh"
Most people around you think your clutch is slipping, or transmission is failing.
When my E420 bangs through gears you feel satisfaction! That 7G-tronic is like a well oiled rifle. Bang, next gear! And cause of the AMG exhaust system I get pops occasionally XD

I like the boxer rumble too. If I had serious cash to burn, a 500+ hp Impreza would be on my list. Such a monster would cost alot more than all of my cars combined.
There is a video of a guy on youtube with a 600hp Impreza with anti-lag doing launches at night (600whp Subaru dirty launch, or something) and that's the type of stuff I'd use that Impreza for.
Live out my dream of being a pretend rally driver that only drives on roads XD

CVTs are absolute garbage. My dad had a 2012 Subaru Outback with CVT and it was terrible. Even he admitted that it drove like a wet sponge, but he already bought it cash, so no turning back...

When my dad got heart surgery and a new artificial valve in 2014, we went to hospital in Sofia (capital) and the hotel where we slept in had an underground garage. The slope was massive! I'm talking about probably 40% grade/ slope.

The underground garage was too tight to turn around, so cars always had to back up the steep incline.
You know how much CVTs like steep inclines right? Especially backwards... Took me three minutes with my foot to the floor to get out of the car park.
The whole place reeked of gas and bad Subaru transmission. When I got out, I let the car cool down, before me and my mum drove home.

Next time we were in Sofia to pick my dad up, we had to spend the night at a hotel again, but I chose a hotel with a flat parking lot.

When my dad got rid of the Outback in 2017 and got himself a VW Tiguan, the transmission in the Subaru was almost dead. My dad also has a heavy right foot... VW's DSG fits his driving style better XD

              BTW:
