It's discriminatory.
We need to repeal all these age-based laws, and replace them with laws that award persons who have a responsible aptitude and ability for these activities.
I am neutral towards the subject, however, I believe that emancipation should be a bit easier. I believe that if a minor is in an abusive home or situation and they can potentially make arrangements to either live in government housing or with another adult of legal age, then they should be able to do so if they can prove abuse the way a domestic violence case can be proven. That in lieu of proving abuse then being shipped to a foster home until they're old enough to live with someone else. I do see where this can go horribly awry though.
I also think that active duty military personalle should be exept from the legal drinking age on military bases. If you're willing to fight and die for your country you should at least be able to have a cold one.
I voted it's stupid, only because of this... you have to be 18 to die for your country but 21 to have a beer. That's just bloody ridiculous if you ask me.
However, it seems like especially in current generations kids aren't ready for adulthood, not at all, by the time they're 18. I don't think the legal age of adulthood should be higher, but I do think we should make sure they're actually ready to become adults first. >.<
Where I live age laws are really in the grey areas. Like sometimes 18 year olds can drink, sometimes they cant.
Yeah if u get a driving intoxicated u go back to under 21 status. Sounds good to me.
What would be the practical outcomes of lowering it or making it higher? Does it serve a legal purpose or is it arbitrary distinction? (I know the answer to those questions will be different depending on where in the world you live, but I'm still interested.)
