What do you think of the irish?

I'm Irish and proud of it.
True, we don't really like the English - it goes back to the Irish potato famine, and also the fact they don't buy rounds of drink.
In Ireland you either drink (a lot) maybe 10% of the population - or are completely tee-total 90%, there really is no inbetween. However, recession or not, we ask whoever is in our company if they would like a drink, regardless of the size of group we are in. You really should visit Disthing, coz I think you'd be really surprised by the beautiful hotels, scenery and local pubs. Yes, people are friendly coz we say hello to everyone we pass in the street - unless we are in the city centre and there are just too many people. We always ask about other people, how they are etc and love to tell funny stories to make people laugh. We avoid conversations about religion or politics when we are out in city centre pubs etc in case it causes trouble - BIG trouble!!

There are very few red-heads, there are more in Scotland and I doubt very much if you could tell by the facial features who is Irish, French, German, etc as we are a very mixed race - although there are not a lot of black people. Funnily enough, although most Irish can be biased about religion, racism is very rarely a problem coz we are interested in different people and their way of life. We have the highest standard of education in the UK and are renowned for not being afraid of hard work which is why many Irish travelled the world working as bricklayers and various tradesmen.

The stereotyping is silly. It's just like me saying that we regard the typical American as obese, loud-mouthed and wearing a cowboy hat!

irish people are fine by me...they are stereotyped way too much for drinking...i truely doubt that all irish drink gallons and gallons of beer, i mean come on people, dont let a few bad apples ruin the whole irish community

I like the Irish. I'm not so keen on people imagining they are Irish because they have some Irish family a few centuries ago. You are American. You are not Irish, Scottish, English, German, or any other thing. You are American. And that's no bad thing either. Americans are good people. But really, just be American. What's wrong with that?

I love the Irish, but they DO drink too much and thats actually not a stereotype. 9/10 Irish people drink profoundly.

I'll be honest and say that I find Irish people, as a rule, to be a little more brash and defensive than the general Western population. There, I said it. It's not "in their genes". It's cultural and probably due to the damned Brits. I can say this because I have both English and Irish blood. (:

I think Irish people are usually pretty good-looking, especially the men. Irish men are much better looking than most English men. Again... generalizations here.

Some Irish people have cute accents, some have annoying accents, it all depends on the region of Ireland or Northern Ireland one comes from. I like the "brisk" Donegal accent.

They're normal, but what do you expect? They get that same racial tension as the Filipinos. I mean they're both Roman Catholics. An employee of mine is a Filipina while her husband is Irish. No American blood at all. I like being friends with them and I love to drink with them.

I'm studying in college here in Ireland and i've been here for 2 years now,all i can say is that yes Irish people do drink a little bit too much but are very nice,friendly and welcoming people.I love Ireland,it's like my 2nd home <3.

Yes I LOVE the Irish, their accents really catch me. Even Irish women catch my eye. Especially if they have red hair OMFG I can't resist. Give me an Irish man with red hair and a heavy irish accent, and he is bisexual, I would so hit on him, and i dont hit on people.

I'm pretty sure that one of my great great grandparents was from Ireland. I'd love to go there someday. I've heard the people are nice too.

I don't know many Irish people, and have never had an Irish friend. It therefore makes it kind of difficult to judge them by anything outside the media: IRA, Catholicism, Father Ted, St. Patricks Day, Leprechauns, Red heads, Baileys, Guinness. None of those are particularly helpful qualifiers of an entire population...

I would like to visit though. It's only across the way from me (England).

Alcohol...food...terrorism and smelling bad!! Truth is, I imagine very few of you have actually been to Ireland. Sad. You can stereotype people as much as you like but the only person you hurt is yourself because you just end up looking really stupid.
