What do you think of electric cars and small gas-sippers?

This is the opposite of the pickup truck poll.

How do you feel about small, energy-efficient cars?

They are great! I have one and I think everyone should have one. 9
I like them because I hate paying for gasoline. 7
I like them, but I don't own one. 10
They are okay, but I'd rather drive something bigger. 7
They're too small. I'm afraid of dying in an accident. 0
I think they're a scam. 7
I would be too embarassed to be seen in one. Too feminine. 1
They are so ugly! Only jerks drive them. 2
I hate them. I don't think they should be allowed on the road. 4
Other. 2

  • OK. Everyone has a negative opinion of electric cars, but what about the gas-sippers and energy efficient cars that I had ALSO mentioned as a part of this poll.

My problem is that it makes people believe that one car per person is a reasonable remedy to an ever growing problem. It isn't. We need to focus on making communities livable without the need for everyone to have their own personal vehicle. I will always support fuel efficiency standards and alt fuel vehicles but society needs to choose this change or have it will be thrust upon us in a most uncomfortable fashion.

I've driven an electric car and I hated it!!! It was slow, boring and useless. I asked the man in the showroom "How long can I drive, before the battery goes flat?" The man said "About 300km." I asked him "How long would it take to charge it up" Answer - 6-12 hours!
I'm sorry, but my W203 Diesel can cover nearly 1000km on one tank!

If we are going to talk about future cars, I say hydrogen!
Hydrogen + ICE is the future. Driving an electric car is like driving a damn golf-cart! No feeling, no passion, no soul... It's just a symphpony of deadness!
Immagine a V12 twin-turbo direct injection hydrogen car... 1000+ hp, immense acceleration, brutal power and as eco friendly as nature herself!

the reason such a car doesnt exist bcuz of money. we have the capability to,make cars that run entirely from water, but that project was scrapped in the late 80's bcuz the oil cartels felt threatened that their profits were at stake. (search stan meyer on you tube) and in fact he was mysteriously murdered. I understand that everyone deserves to make a profit, but thre fact that all the pollution from every car ever stays and accumulates over time. we're poisoning our environment, when we have the means to make vehicles that do notrun on gasoline!! and now what theyre charging for gas??? it makes me sick!!!

  • They're obnoxious and in the way. I drove a Prius for a short time and, while chic, it was very unsatisfying.

Now I either drive my BMW (11 mpg) or, when it's working, my Maserati (10 mpg).

Before you call me consumptive, know that most of the time I take the train.

I saw a commercial for an electric car the other day and I thought why don't they create an exercise bike type thing that comes with the car so that people can charge the car by pedaling the bike??

I also thought why can't the car charge itself after the initial charge? A regular car has an alternator that constantly recharges the battery while the car is running. It works off of belts that are turning while the car is running. So...can't an electric car somehow capture at least SOME of it's energy back in a similar manner?? It has moving parts so I don't see why it isn't possible at least to some degree.

I came across that idea as well.
I was thinking maybe electromagnetic induction due to the moving wheels; it'll probably be very little energy, but it should accumulate to something significant.

They're a con. They're worse for the environment than petrol-based vehicles. When someone comes up with a solution that isn't a con, I'll learn to drive.
