I am glad that it is gone. If straight people can be openly straight in the military (talking about their wives, girlfriends, etc.) without repercussions then gays should be able to do the same.

If the argument "there is no place for sexuality in the military" was sufficient, then don't ask don't tell would include straight people as well, as in, if John can't talk about his husband, Tim can't talk about his wife either because sexuality has no place and last I CHECKED (I am NOT a professional), heterosexuality IS a sexuality.

And correct me if I am mistaken but most servicemen that I have spoken to regarding the subject could give two shits less who is gay and who isn't in regards to shitting or showering around them. Like I said, I could be mistaken.

    • It's not that simple, as many men are homophobic. It can cause serious problems with regards to the functioning of the military, and that is the most important thing. Wanting the right to make others uncomfortable is stupid. If you're gay don't expect everyone to treat you fairly, because that won't ever happen. Stop bitching and sooking, just suck it up and shut up.

        "as many men are homophobic."
        Are you serious right now?
Because I've never heard of anyone trembling in absolute terror when seeing a gay person. Homophobia is just a term used to describbe gay haters. If it actually is a legitimate phobia, then it must be incredibly uncommon, and a peculiar phobia at that, since there's no physical way to tell if someone is gay. But skepticism aside, if someone can't get over their irrational hate of another in a situation where you both depend on eachother for your lives, then I don't think they should be in a team in the first place. It goes against everything a team is made for. And if someone can do a job just as well as another, why should they be denied it?

Also found it funny how you whine about poor Joey feeling a wee bit uncomfortable, then say gays should suck it up and accept being treated as second class citizens.

No I know a few homophobes and they do have that reaction. They do not hate gay people but they do get very creeped out around them. So yes homophobia is a thing.

Really? I have met people who are terrified of them.

You can't really be stupid enough to think that when a person fears something they always react with fear, many people react to it with violence and hate. "get it before it gets me" attitude.

Homophobic people often react with anger and violence. Many homophobic men have murdered gay men simply because they found out they were gay.

Infact that exact thing has even happened in the military several times.

I just think that if coming out as gay is a possible risk to your safety and the functioning of the military, then better to just keep quiet.

A phobia is an irrational fear. I'd say people who are homophobic should go to therapy and get their shit straightened out because that amount of fear is abnormal and indicative of mental issues. It's not a gay persons fault that someone has an irrational fear of them.

Yeah, in essence, there are a lot of flaws to the comfort argument.

Race, religion, creed... I doubt many of those guys are comfortable with all of the needles stuck in them to go overseas either.

        • You all come up with the same old shit, "let everyone be who they are and say what they want"

Because you don't care, you don't give a fuck when hate crimes of any sort are committed. You get up in arms "oh punish the offender" But that doesn't bring the victim back does it!

You stupid fuckheads say "oh well it shouldn't happen" Well it does, and always will so what the fuck are you doing to stop it by making people more of a fucking target. Nothing, because you'd rather look politically correct than save innocent lives.

It's alright if there are victims aslong as they got to say "look i'm gay"

If you'd actually seen some of the "hate" violence i did in prison, you'd think differently about it all and realise there is no stopping it, we can only an attempt to prevent. But ofcourse you politically correct "do nothings" will sit back in safety and take away the last option.

          You stupid, spineless, sheep.

If people decide not to join the military because of the risk of hate crime, that's their decision to make. Our government shouldn't be making it for them.

            • Not just the military, anywhere. I'd rather have living or unharmed gay people than dead or injured ones.

It's just maddening to see so many people say "equal rights" to everything without ever thinking of consequences, or doing anything about them. It shows that deep down they don't necessarily even believe it, they just want to fit in and think of themselves as "good".

It's pathetic to say "i support equal rights and freedom for everyone" get real, the world and human nature won't ever allow such a thing to happen.

The best we can do is promote equal rights, but not at the expense of others like every thoughtless, shotout, naive, dumbass on here does. Because as i said, they don't really care about people victimised by it aslong as they can boost their own sense of self worth and belonging by saying "look how good i am"

  • Civilians should not have an option on weather we should have it or not, I don't tell a lawyer how to do his job.

That being said I was in the Army for 6 years. I am a heterosexual and I don't think it's fair to but homosexuals next to me. We have to SHOWER with these people, men and women are separated because we view each other sexually. So now why is it okay for us to be sexually objectified by a homosexual? It's not fair, I'm not comfortable with it and gays should not be able to serve. I don't force anyone to strip naked for me, so why strip me naked in front of other people? I hate it when civilians who have NEVER SERVED think they should even have a fraction of an opinion on this subject. I was a soldier, their for, my point is valid. I have been over in Iraq, I showered with the guys, and I would not be okay with being nude around a homosexual.

So how do you know you haven't already been nude around a homosexual? If you look at the headstones in Arlington Cemetery, or the flag draped coffins arriving at Dover can you tell which ones are gay? Like it or not, the military fights to protect everyone's rights, not just those of the popular.

      • Okay, looking at me, you couldn't tell if I am gay or straight. So force your girlfriend walk around nude in front of me. That's fair, right? I mean, I could be gay, and it wouldn't matter if I saw her naked. By your logic doing that would be fine.

      • Not to mention, why stress us out even more? Being over in Iraq is hell, so why add a little more stress to it? Why do I have to wonder if this guy wants to fuck me while I try to relax in the shower? Why are you trying to make it harder for the straight soldiers who make up the mass of the Army?

        Comment Hidden ( show )
      • I don't think it's "pathetic" at all. Who are you to tell me how I feel is "pathetic"? I'm not okay being nude in front of men who find me sexually attractive. I'm not gay, I would consider that gay, and I'm not okay with it.
