What's your opinion about these pageants? What do you think of the parents doing this with their kids? What do you find OK about it, and (or) what do you find wrong about it? Would you ever put your child in a beauty pageant?

All child beauty contests do is teach the kid that people's worth should be judged by their appearance, when we should be teaching them the opposite.

Nothing wrong with dressing up your toddler like a little whore. Seriously I think the parents should be shot & left in a ditch to be eaten by large cats.

I don't think it's sick, but you've got to let kids have a childhood. They've got a whole adolescence and adulthood of being judged for the way they look. Why take away the last little window of freedom they have?

I find the entirety of it to be just gross and detrimental to a child's mind. From now all that she will think about is beauty and put it on a pedestal. All the time she has to be beautiful. Little children should not be wearing make up. If you want enter a beauty pageant when you're older, like late teens, then that's alright. But at a young age I disapprove.

You're right. I tend to watch it when absolutely nothing is on. I haven't watched it in ages though. I don't know..for some reason, I think it would be kind of fun..I think it's almost like an escape from reality for the participants, especially the mothers. Just something fun to do to get away from your day-to-day problems.
The ones who take it too seriously are dispicable though.

I think that beauty pageants are to be perfectly honest an absolute discrace. By all means feel free to call me old fashioned and maybe even a bit out of touch but I think little girls should be little girls in their innocent floral beautiful boe tied smock dresses rather than caked in make up where they look like they're ready to hit the town. The world of a child is an enchanting wonderful uncorrupt and innocent place which I believe they need to reatain for as long as possible. x

I disapprove. Mainly this is because from what I've seen (a good number of my younger cousins were in the pageant circuit), it's not about the kids enjoying themselves or anything like that, it's about the parents being competitive. Also, anything that sexualizes a child is not okay in my book, and a lot of those pageant competitions go beyond just looking cute or pretty. Young girls being judged on how they look in bikinis with dyed hair, spray tans and full make-up is NOT cool!

I was going to say "I strongly disapprove of it" before I remembered that not all child pageants are like the ones we see on TV- while it is wrong that a lot of parents exploit their children, there are also natural pageants which truly do build children's confidence. I chose "I disapprove" because there aren't enough limitations- parents are allowed to do anything at all to their children. There need to be more rules involved.

I think it teaches a lesson that everyone needs to learn eventually.

That you're going to have to jump through the ridiculous hoops of trying to earn someone's approval and to accept that they ain't shit unless they are willing to do those things if they want to get anywhere in life.

But they teach these girls this in a very harsh manner that accustoms them to what is essentially constant anxiety and emotional turbulence and there is no way in hell that these kids can be developing properly with that kind of weight on their shoulders.

That being said, it is great for children that have a real interest in this kind of thing that isn't conditioned into them by their Mothers, but I still believe that these pageants HAVE TO HAVE TO HAVE TO be given regulations for the child's health and safety. I think the pageant, for children, until they are old enough to truly make their own cosmetic and competitive decisions, should be treated as a workplace for children and should be given the same health and safety rules that any workplace would be given.

First off, botox being an illegal form of getting the edge, as well as a limit of an 8 hour "workday" and limits as to the amount of tanning the children can do etc. trying to limit decisions that should only be made by adults for themselves. Let the over-competitive pageant Mommies enforce the rules for us. Eventually they will all have to at least pretend to play fair, because bad sportsmanship would be against the rules too, and other various methods that could constitute as child abuse.

I think a rule enforced should be "Don't dress up toddlers as prostitutes".

Cause you know, one mother dressed her daughter up as the Julia Roberts character from "Pretty Woman" in one episode of "T&T". I personally think that should have gotten her disqualified right then and there.

      Comment Hidden ( show )
    • Disagree....there's PLENTY of time to learn this when the mind is bright enough to comprehend it. Ad not only THAT, but to decide how much it matters to them personally.

If you're taught at such a impressionable age that everything's a competition and you have to be hot, then what the hell kind of people will we have living in this world? True, everyone (well, not everyone, by far) does it to some extent but not to THIS extent.

not to mention many of the mother have stated to thier kids sometimes you have to go through pain honey to make it on top , sometimes you have to do things you dont want to win " lets see how this translates to the future sha'll we ? a women is in a low paying job and her boss says if she sucks his cock shall have a huge promotion . if thier is man in the park that says he will give her a car to fuck him , that women deserve to be raped and treated as a sex object a messege relayed to futrue at a very young age . " you get my piont " .

    • Allistalla

Most of the children are and to win the adults go as far as to wax thier eyebrows , wax other parts of thier bodys cover them in oil and glitter , give them tans or spray can tans . Make them wear shoes that can damage thier feet and not really care if they blister to not , prick thier eyebrows and force them to dance sexuelly and try to show as much skin as possible to win the contest . Tell me that isnt perverted and sad and as some of the women chant . " why becuase you love mommy , do it cuase you love momy , dont you love your mommy " ? mommy loves you so win for me sweetheart and your mommy will always love you " .

The problem with children is that they usually do what their parents tell them to. Children don't really see the psychological effects it could have on them. They don't know what it does to them. All they're doing is obeying their parents, who most likely are trying to live their lives vicariously through them. When you're older and can make decisions for yourself that's fine, but at a young age you can't really know the consequences of your actions.
