What do you think in?

When I'm concentrating (like with math) I think with my voice in my head, but if I'm thinking normally, quickly, or daydreaming, I think only in pictures. How do you think?

In pictures 43
In words 17
In a voice 49
Out loud 5
In a language other than my "mother language" 5
A combination (will explain further in comment) 45
Other (will explain further in comment) 9

i have an inner monolougue, with a central voice, which governs all my decisions, occaisonally its alter ego comes out to debate a decision, and thats is how i make all my decisions, by argueing inside my own head :)

I do it more or less like you said, but even "talking to me" when I get what I am trying to understand, I get a image of it.

I use the word-thinking when I try to memorize something for a short period of time. Then forget it because I didn't have a image of it.

    Mostly I use the image-thinking.

hmm it's a pretty interesting deal. I can't see where i'd fit. Looked all around the internet for this sort of thing. I tend to think half in emotions and half in smells. Anyone know anyone like that?

I think in a voice. I actually have myself speaking in my head my thoughts.. Or something :) And I of course picture things in my mind too if necessary.

  • Images, film like images and a voice. I don't really know if the voice is the same as mine but it has the same tone. But I ALWAYS have images in my head. If I'm choosing anything from a menu I have to think in taste and see which tastes best before I order. That can take a while sometimes.

Pictures and words, depending on what it is. I imagine scenarios in pictures, but when considering or analysing thoughts it's my internal monologue rambling away.

  • All of them!! I have a voice and a movie aswell. Sometimes words too, but it realy depencs on what I'm thinking about. I usually write down my thoughts too. So I guess I actually see them physically too.

Word and pictures, depends on what I'm doing; if I'm trying to memorize a piece of music or something along those lines, then it's pictures. Everything else I hear my voice.

in concepts, which makes it difficult to translate thoughts into words sometimes. communication is not a strength of mine.

When you think visually, like with your eyes closed, you're using your mind's eye. Then try to visualize what you want to come true.

i run through every outcome of every imaginable scenario to prepare myself for any future events while at the same time dealing with these scenarios in order of probability and chronology. This is done through video and the thoughts of other people who wold be involved. I also think in English but some times in Spanish, and i always think in thoughts.

well mainly words and images. Its memories and pictures and scents that bring up memories. concepts....
I don't have one direct line of thought there's all different branches going on at the same time.
If I had to categorize I'd say there are three and they interact and influence each other.

When I think it depends what I'm thinking about. The voice in my head think a lot and sometimes when I think I see pictures, it's more like a movie though.

Most people who are uni-lingual think in words. People who are poly-lingual most often think in pictures. There are an extremely small percentile of people who think in the other three senses but I couldn't even imagine thinking in taste or sensation or smell. I was raised uni-lingual, like most Americans and French, and only thought in words until I was about 15 when I learned German then Spanish then French then Swedish then Russian. Now I think in pictures and a cut-and-paste vocal train depending on which word and which language conveys the idea best.

in a voice a lot, a sort of conversation, combined with occasional pictures, depends on what I'm thinking about. If I'm recalling memories, it's definitely pictures!

I grew up with two languages, so my thoughts are in both. I remember things in pictures and in words. I prefer to say my thoughts out loud, but I wouldn't want people to think I'm crazy...

i dont think in words but ideas that i understand but arent voiced. that sounds weird but its like when in a dream you know something without having it said in words.
