What do you think hooking up is?

I've asked a lot of people this question recently and I've gotten wildly different opinions. So, in your opinion, at what point is it considered hooking up?

CONTEXT For example: We went back to my place after a few drinks at the bar, I turned off the lights, pulled out a condom and we "hooked up". This use of the term would most likely mean sex where as a young teen asking if her friend "hooked up" after playing spin the bottle would mean making out. Context folks.

I've never heard the term hooking up for having sex.

I've heard it used for dating or just hanging out.

I've only known it to mean 'having sex', that's how me and my associates use the term.

I don't see why people would use it to describe anything less than sex, considering by saying it you might give the impression that you had sex when you only meant you went on a date. I certainly wouldn't want to leave any room for interpretation in this serious of a matter.

I think the age of the person you are asking probably makes a difference. I am nearly 30 years old, and most adults would probably define hooking up as sex. Teenagers would probably be more likely to answer sex. I don't know of anyone who would say orgasm.

Even Urban Dictionary can't agree on this one. You have to use the context, but I've always defaulted to the "making out" definition if I can't tell.

Also, who the fuck has sex without orgasm? Why list the two seperately?
