The atoms of your body were a gift from the bodies that went before (and the cores of stars that went before them). They'll be gifted to what comes next. In such a way, we are all one another, and we are all the same. Even though we won't be alive, our atoms will be part of something that is alive. And while we are alive now, we carry with us the atoms of someone we'd consider dead, and we keep that thing alive.

Dead and alive are very subjective terms.

Are you familiar with "The Cosmic Serpent?" or is it the "The Sacred Balance" that I'm thinking of...regardless, they both speak of life as something far beyond the physical body.

How does one unlock the memories, that's what I want to know.

What about the "soul"? Obviously bodies decay and are "recycled", we know that. This person (I think) was asking about your non-physical being.

I know. I was being very literal because I'm not sure I believe in a soul. I'll save you the big explanation. :)

Body decomposes in the ground and you cease to exist.

"Like sleeping" is a childish way to look at death. It's more like being "Erased". For all eternity.

I agree. If you're sleeping, you'll wake up, right?

When you die the electicity that transmits your brain signals leaves in a trace miniscule form of radiation. That bit of radiation is all your conciousness. Essentially that radiation then permeates into the womb of a woman and is brought into the brain of a fetus.

Basically my belief is an over-glorified, scientifical (sorta?) version of reincarnation. If you are wondering your memories are locked in and are only faintly seen in dreams.

Synapses in the brain cease to exist along with everything that made you a unique being. And as for living forever, there is a theory that telomerase could be used to make a human imortal, its been used on regular somatic cells that have divided more than 600 times (usually a human cell has a lifespan of 100 divisions) BUT the problem is they don't know whether using this treatment on a human would make them immortal or cause mass cancer growth. Trust me it will be tested in the not to distant future though.

I have to say I am surprised by the amount of people who don't believe in life after death. I thought most would, I guess I was wrong.
I have no freaking clue, but hope there is something pleasant after death, woudn't it be nice if there was a heaven? But one thing is for sure, I hope I don't reincarnate. I love my life, but having to start everything alll over again sounds exhausting!

I'm completely certain that I'm going to go to Heaven. Then, I'm going to meet God. Then, I'll give him a mushroom slap that'll leave a graceful impression on His face for all of eternity.

I'd like to think there us an 'otherside'. But I think harsh reality is that death us nothingness,. Before were borne / or become self aware there is nothing and so after we die the only logical state we become apart of is nothingness once more.

  • Personally, it does not matter what happens after we die. It might comfort us to think that our bodies, souls, and minds will reside in a better place, but in reality we have no consciousness of what happens after death. Of course some believe in ghosts and other supernatural concepts, which I am certainly not dismissing, but as far as we humans can prove-- we go nowhere after death.

It's not exactly "like you're sleeping" because your brain shuts off .. so it's .. nothing, you have no way of sensing it.

You just die, and your soul is erased.

But what does it feel like to be dead? It feels just like how it feels to have not been born yet.

I do not believe in reincarnation.

I think there are more than one things that happen... But we never truly know, until we die, do we? Even then, we may not know.

I think that when you die, your gone forever. I'd like to think that you go to a special place such as; heaven or re-born into another body.. but how is it humanly possible? This question cannot be answered until you die yourself..

The decomposition of the physical body in no way suggests the death of our soul, or what have you. I think if we've learned our lessons on this level of spiritual evolution after that death, then we'll ascend to another level of consciousness, what may be termed as heaven, but this only happens after a long time. If not, we're reborn to this world to make more mistakes and learn from them. Spacey sounding, I know.

Well I think when you die you just cease to exist and enter an eternity of oblivion.

What I hope happens when you die is that you get to dream forever.

What I am afraid of happening when you die is retaining some degree of awareness in your body, and feel yourself decompose over the years. That's why I want to be cremated -_-

I don't know what i believe in... A few years ago I would say reborn, as i've had some weird stuff happen to me and my mum. my mum knew her way around a town that no one she knew had been to before on vacation. she was 8, and hadn't even looked at a map, yet knew that there was a perfect cafe that would suit everyone pretty close by. but now, i don't know. science has ruined my thoughts, i suppose. now, i want to say that souls never die. i want to believe that there's a place we go to after we die, not heaven or hell, just a place. but then again, i want to believe we can be reborn too. i just don't know, no one does, but it's nice to believe in something pleasant. :)

  • Actually people who've come back from being clinically dead expressed seeing a "tunnel of light" or a place where everyone was screaming in pain or agony.

The scientists explain this as chemicals shooting off in the dying brain but...take it how you will.

Good and evil are just overly used words. Why would be be judged on those? Why not be judged on whether we take more left turns than right?

Better yet, why would we be judged at all?

You actually think we'll stay like this? Feeling emotion and being self-aware and all these petty little things?

      What's the point?
Why does there even have to be a point?

And if "God" really is existant and fully capable of doing all this stuff people think he did, why can't he just pick us up and put us in the "good" place? Why is the devil, his own creation, a threat to him? Didnt he create everything? Why would he create something he didnt like? And if he did create it, he's GOD. he can do ANYTHING and he created EVERYTHING. He can destroy it with the mere willpower.

      There is no God. Sorry.
