What do you think about the wave of illegal immigrants?

Long Post----WARNING

I liked how the Romans did things. To them being Roman was more of an idea than it was a geographic location. When the Romans conquered an area in addition to fixing roads, building aqueducts, improving laws and punishing organized crime they also offered everyone citizenship if they served 25 years in the Auxiliary units of the Roman Legions.

And by serving Rome, they became Roman and rightfully so. Then they took these conquered Celts, Celtibeans, Thracians, Iberians, Gauls and sent them out to conquer people who had been as free as them.

People view Rome as some autocratic empire but in reality Rome was nothing more than a city called Rome. It was from the people they conquered and served that Rome found it's strength. The state served their inhabitants and the inhabitants (or at least the next generation) served the state.

My whole point was to say this: Citizenship isn't founded in something as external and shallow as geographic location. It's founded in believing as the state does.

If any man comes to a country and serves it passionately then they must be imbued with the rights of citizenship and looked upon as complete equals.

I'm not American but if you're letting in people from countries where citizens are more acclimated to violence than your own you're own country will become more violent. Just fact and common sense.

The arguement for immigration is that, in the long run, it will benefit the country. Welfare isn't a real problem - the big problem is crime.

More people = more tax income, more expansion opportunities for big business, more people with getting money and willing to spend. Otherwise the economy becomes stagnant.

That's why politicians don't really want to do anything about it. Mostly just media hype and vote garnering.

I have no problem with them as long as they aren't doing anything illegal stealing, robbing etc a lot of them are simply trying to make a better life for themselves and they do the most demeaning jobs that we Americans would never do so I don't understand people that say they're stealing our jobs they're gardeners they clean peoples houses its not like they're working as Managers and CEOs I imagine being an illegal immigrant is very hard we're lucky to be born in first world countries

I come from Leicester, UK, which is one of the most multicultural cities in the world (though I doubt many of you will have heard of it), and here almost everyone rubs along quite nicely most of the time. Every community has its jerks of course and it would be wrong to say there isn't the odd bit of aggro (e.g. between muslim and non-muslim Asian youths) but it's nothing to write home about. No, on the whole the only group of people that seems to have trouble integrating is the Somalis and I reckon this is because they are from one of the most brutal places in the world today and arrive both traumatised and unused to the rule of law. Many Somalis integrate fine, don't get me wrong, but it seems a noticeable minority have built up a very bad reputation for assault, robbery, etc. (not that I have any police stats). The point is, however, there is no panic in the city that we can't get these people settled in, because our extremely diverse population gives us a certain confidence that we have the skills to tackle almost anything. Now doesn't the US have similar strength in depth? Have some self-confidence America (instead of just spending half your time faking it).

Who else would mow you Americans gardens? Here in Europe we have to get the Poles to do it.

I think a wave of immigants is a really cool idea and a really excellent and most bodacious way of textually visualising what is a very tricky subject. A wave of immigants. Just imagine it. Your standing there in the street, hot summers day, minding your own business, taxes paid up, 3 generations of your family went to war, all American....and all of a sudden....wooooooosh, this big tidal wave springs up out of nowhwere comprised of nothing but a mass of immigants clutching their forged green cards. The wave is so high and so wide, it eats everything. And this is where prophecy comes to pass, because it was written that surfers would rule and if that wave of immigants comes at me i'm going to ride that sucker hard, dudes. Fear not, for I shall ride forth on a wave of immigants and serpents, and the people shall worship me and my ability to walk the nose.

I think its bad. Why should they get to cone here get all types of grants and government help when Americans that need help can't get it... I think they need to send them right back across the border.

As long as they aren't flipping me off I don't care how they wave.

Valkeer said pretty much exactly what I was just about to say. Land borders are just selfishness and a refusal to give others the same opportunities we have.

I hope to God most of these comments are by children who know no better. We are in trouble these illegals not only bring crime with them but they are very sick the government is hiding and threating doctors if they speak out. Wake up protest get these illegals out. If you don't there is going to be an all out war......

Okay i am mexican in the us and am pissed at the racist attitudes. Not only do the gringos REFUSE to speak our language and they say "learn English" why should I listen to "for inglish press bla bla" when this is OUR country. THEY STOLE IT FROM US! PRECIOUSSSS!!! We white folks have don a lot of invading of other peoples' land masses. So, I get pissed when we complain about illegal immigration. If we shared enough, it wouldn't happen.

Everyone deserves a fair shake...I mean Fuk most of the southern states used to be mexico anyway...if they want to come here and get paid to choke people in the shower why not...i dont see Rob schneider complaining..

Hey, They can have the same freedom as us, but we set a law that needs to be followed!
They break the national border law, then they will have no problem breaking every other law that we stand to enforce!

Sadly all these illegal aliens are coming over and having anchor babies, but we have a law against that coming up real soon!

I think that personally,they do bring some good and bad to the USA.But they are here illegally and if we allow them to stay and there is no consequences.We are breaking the law ourselves.We cannot follow some laws and not others.Thats like someone going out drunk driving and killing someone and ignoring it because they were drunk.Would anyone allow that.NO
