What do you think about the mars journeys?

Many scientists like Stephan Hawking have said something is going to kill us SOON. So right now NASA and other programs are trying to send people up to mars. This is difficult since landing a person on mars is like a meteor entering earths atmosphere. The challenge is trying to get them on the planet without them burning up in Mars atmosphere. They believe we could populate mars and move the species of earth to this planet. Something killed the dinosaurs so unless we leave one day that same type of disaster will kill us.

That sounds interesting. I would love to move to mars 3
I think its a ploy to make money 0
I am concerned and do not want to lose the planet we call home 4
We ruined this planet we are just going to ruin another 4
Destruction or not I think journeying to other planets is worth it 9
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

The thing is due to certain images on the web, it would appear that Mars is still inhabited by something. I wish that space programs would hurry the fuck up and look for other habitable planets buts theres the huge risk that if we did that we would ruin those planets like we have ruined ours. What if wars are started over land and valuable resources? What if the inhabitants of another planet find us inferior or a threat and try to enslave or kill us? If we ever did have colonies on other planets I hope that NASA would finally reveal the truth on matters that they have been trying to keep secret for so long. Humanity needs to know these things! I also worrying that at this point humanity is still not advanced enough to pull colonization and terraforming off.

I don't believe we'll ever move 7+ billion people to Mars. The logistics just don't work. Moreover, Mars is actually smaller than Earth.

That's why they've just announced the decision to send birds.

      • They cant just send the birds into the space. They need a ship. Maybe a birdship.

The idea isn't to leave Earth and leave no one behind; the idea is to populate both planets so that IF Earth or Mars would happen to be hit by a life-ending meteor, humanity would continue.

Such an event is not only possible, but it is guaranteed. The only question is when such an event will occur and whether or not we will have sufficient means to stop or at least mitigate the catastrophe when it does.

Besides the whole doomsday problem, if we're legitimately able to colonize and populate other planets, this could result in all kinds of advancements for humanity. Think of solar energy for a moment. We are currently limited in power able to be drawn from this method by efficiency of absorption. If we can increase the power supplied to the cells, then this problem is largely negated. This can be accomplished by orbiting satellites around the sun itself, which would be quite challenging, but I would hope it is at least possible. Couple this with wireless transference of energy, and we are talking about energy that can power worlds (very optimistically).

Space and other planets hold a lot of possibilities for humanity, and it would be shameful were we to neglect them.

    • You are saying they are going to sacrifice half of us? So the plan is to eliminate half of the human race. That seems like a plot to take over the world. You think they are really that devious?

Not in the slightest. If you're worried a bank is going to crash and put your money in two different banks, are you attempting to lose half your money?

        • Money is not living.

        • You are making sure you only keep half. However money is just money. People are people. If you sacrifice half you just succeeded in killing half of the people. Which means they are ok with half of us being blown up.

Which means they are probobly only going to put the people they desire most on Mars. Which would mean they have complete control over the new world. If you have nothing but like thinking minds there is no more room for difference.

Most of the world is going to hell right now though. Maybe this might be the solution to the problem. It still does not change the fact they are willing to kill half of us though. Without people realizing it too.

So it is first off not very ethical. You seem to think people are nothing but dollar signs. Which means you do not care about who you step on as long as you get to your goal. That right there indicates that you are greedy. If they truly plan to do what you say they do they are brilliant in the most evil way.

I thought it was an interesting idea till you said they might plan to kill us. I certainly hope they do not plan on sacrificing us. That would be horrible.

"You are making sure you only keep half."

No. The goal is for everyone to survive, but if a meteor or some world-ending apocalypse were to happen, then having our species in two places is a good idea. Bear in mind that no one knows whether or not Mars would be hit by one of these meteors either or when such an event would occur. The idea is simply to make it so that if something bad does happen, we don't lose all of humanity.

"Which means they are probobly only going to put the people they desire most on Mars."

Again, no. If we actually are able to colonize Mars, the colonists there would face challenges that those who attempted to colonize America couldn't even have imagined (and many of them died horribly). Also, the cost to move a person to another planet is quite literally astronomical. Those that might actually go to Mars would be faced with innumerable challenges and would likely have a good chance of dying either from a broken airlock, starvation, or thirst. Not exactly a paradise.

"It still does not change the fact they are willing to kill half of us though."

The goal of this isn't genocide of any sort. It's a preventative measure so that IF something were to happen, humanity would survive.

"You seem to think people are nothing but dollar signs."

That was a metaphor. I want humanity to survive long past me and as many as are feasible. I only changed the situation because the concept of money is quite universal and easy to relate.

"I thought it was an interesting idea till you said they might plan to kill us. I certainly hope they do not plan on sacrificing us. That would be horrible."

I said nothing of the sort. What exactly would "they" be sacrificing "us" to?

I forgot one thing. When a physicist, specifically an astrophysicist like Stephen Hawking mentions that an event could occur "soon", he likely does not mean the same thing a lay person would mean when saying something will happen soon. He works on a timescale of millions and billions of years. A meteor COULD be hurtling towards Earth right now, but we have no way of knowing. That's the very reason for this type of project, to protect ourselves in case of the worst.

            • You realize we are going in circles. Letting half of us die means they do not care about half of us. Which means we are a sacrifice. So you basically said they plan on sacrificing us.

try reading up on andrew basiago's account as a child that his dad was in the CIA and his account about this. I believe him over the official government account or these fear mongerers.
