I think they are great. That being said, I still think they are overrated.
They are extremely overrated and personally I'm not too fond of them. I can understand the idea that at the time they were something new and different, and that's good, but why are they considered one of the most talented bands of all times?
They didn't do anything that was really technically amazing, their lyricism is kind of shallow if you ask me.... I just don't see what all the fuss is about.
What's going on with the third choice!?
"They suck and I'm glad they're dead"????
How could someone think that? And currently while I'm typing this comment there are 7 people who think that :'(
I am a huge fan of them and I'm sad they passed away.
The first band to successfully meld Pop and Rock. 5 Year olds like them; grandmothers like them. In many ways, they're the Pizza of "modern" music.
40 years after their breakup, they still sell more than 90% of the current bands. I can understand why the younger generations might resent The Beatles - they've monopolized pop/rock for decades. Then again, haven't most of the under 30 crowd turned to Rap?
The magic of The Beatles was in the amazing harmonies. And on each album post Help!, every song was different sounding. It kept it fresh - Lennon lead singer for one song, McCartney for another, Harrison on occasion. From the super heavy "Helter Skelter" to the mellow "Blackbird". Just an amazing range of tastes and types of music. And you can hear the happiness and love in their work.
Paul McCartney was good. His songs were better in my opinion. Lennon was too political and I don't agree with him anyway. I think they are overrated in the way of the praise albums like Revolver and Sgt. Peppers get. The drugged up albums aren't so much incredible art like everyone says, and I like their individual singles better; that's why I prefer the later work that was more pop and rock, which again was mostly McCartney. And I love the happy, British sounding songs most of all.
Are they my favorite band? No. Do they have some songs I like? Yes. Do I respect them as musicians? Absolutely.
Aww, I don't see them as being dead. I know they're over and obviously can't get back together, but they just don't feel dead to me. I'm not sure when I'd consider a band "dead". I can listen to the Beatles' music anytime I want and I do listen to their music, so maybe that's why they don't feel "dead".
Anyway, to answer your question, I love the Beatles. Haven't always done, although I've always loved the song Yesterday and Here Comes The Sun. It's just that a lot of their more popular songs don't do *that* much for me. I fell in love with them when I listened to Revolver. Ahhh, that album! Love at first listen.:P
Ooh, nice choice! I love Rubber Soul too. I am so in love with In My Life, Nowhere Man and Norwegian Wood. It might actually make second on my list as well. Although, it has competition from Sgt. Pepper's. She's Leaving Home, A Day in The Life, Lovely Rita and maybe even Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds are some of my favourite Beatles' songs. Ack. Can't. Choose!
Ahhh, I just love the Beatles! They're Getting Better All The Tiiiime! I bet I still even like them When I'm Sixty-Four:P. In My Life, I've never heard anything quite like them. Although, I think people dismiss them too soon:(. I personally think we should all Come Together and give them a bit of a listen, like Eight Days a Week or some such thing. You Dig It?:P
You spelt decent wrong...
There are a handful of Beatles songs that I like.
In a way, I guess it's true that anyone can like them, because they have some songs in most genres... I like John Lennon's experiments with Indian Classical, they are awesome.
But yeah, I never cared much for the general style of the Beatles... Having been brought up on complex mixtures of music that have long since developed from the Beatles, I find their style too simple. There's not enough going on in there to keep me distracted like music should.
They suck, can't say I'm glad they're dead but I do find myself not caring. So I suppose that could be good. Better than sadness, I'd say they got the short end of the straw here.
Bitches.
I like some music that was before my time like pink floyd and marrillion but I never really got into the beatles. I'm glad they were around though, they inspired a lot of bands
