What do you think about mercedes cars?

I think mercedes are over priced crappy cars. I own a few semi trucks and will never buy a mercedes powered truck again, as they are the worst diesel engines you can waste money on. As far as their cars go, to me they make a disposable car designed to work fine for a while, but then go to scrap. Think about it... when was the last time you saw an old one? What do you think about them?

Theyre junk 0
Theyre over rated 3
Best cars money can buy 2
They are average 0
Theyre good but not worth the price tag 3

along with BMW, Mercedes represents the highest quality in German engineering. they are expensive but you are paying for the standard of luxury associated with the brand.

Best of the best and not just because I own a Mercedes...

I'm a car salesman, sadly I sell Peugeots instead of Mercedes, but I do know enough about cars to say that Mercedes are indeed great cars. I also spend a lot of time transporting various cars from lot to lot in Germany. I've driven everything from the base model Dacia Sandero, up to the Bentley Bentayga and there is only one car maker that combines style, luxury, coolness, performance, speed and practicality in the right way. Mercedes Benz! Tho there is one thing I should mention. A Mercedes is only good if you go for a high-spec one. A low spec Mercedes is like buying jeans from the discount bin. It's not the real thing!

Yes, they are expensive, yes most of them are almost useless in winter, but I love them dearly. My W203 for example has been an absolute dream for almost 13 years. I've only had to replace some bushings, a turbo hose and the climate control computer. Other than that, it's just regular maintenance. I've done mods too. ECU-remap, AMG body kit, AMG wheels and an NTG 2.5 navigation. I wouldn't trade my baby for a Bugatti Chiron! It might sound crazy, but a Mercedes is the type of car you can form a bond with.

I'm looking forward to buying a 2013 C350 next summer and I recently bought a 1989 560SEC AMG (doesn't run right now...) and it's amazing! Got the full 1980s cool coupe collection now... BMW E24 and the 560SEC. I also want to buy a 2008 E420CDI. For me it's the best car.

Tho here is some advice for future Mercedes owners... Think of a Mercedes as a high maintenance girlfriend. If you don't pamper her, she will give you trouble and you won't like it one bit. But treat her right and you'll have many enjoyable moments on the endless highways. A bit of pampering and knowledge and you can drive a car made by the company that made the first car and has kept re-inventing the car ever since!

Sorry for overly long and rambley post. Boredom and Chivas regal make people ramble.

    • You sound like a collector at this point! I've only owned one mercedes car and it was nothing but problems, but maybe I just got one that had been abused. I guess my resentment for the brand is my experience with the diesel engines I've had over the years. They simply don't make good motors for semi trucks. Any heavy truck I've had with a mercedes engine was nothing but problems. They lose compression over just a few years, have problems with declining horsepower, tend to be prone to gasket breakage and leaks, and are overall just unreliable. Ill never buy another. I've even lost money on one (cost so,much for repairs that I had to sell before i ever broke even). Most diesel mechanics I know recommend never buying a truck powered by a merc. There's just too many problems with them. Or maybe I just need to drink some chivas brothers scotch whiskey.

I'll join you on that Chivas action... Best whiskey ever!
Sure, Mercedes like any other car maker has had bad years, but in general they are brilliant. Just avoid anything Mercedes between 2000 and 2004, including trucks. They are absolute junk... Seriously, pre-facelift 2000s Mercedes make Alfa Romeos look like Volvo 740s!

Their styling gets old fast, I'd get tired of it quick. I'll take a nice new inflatable toy to romp with over a new Mercedes.

  • I never thought there was anything special about them. American and Japanese are higher quality in my opinion.
