What do you put on your clothes line?

I've never had a clothes line and we have one in the house I'm in now. But I'm just wondering what's appropriate to hang on the clothes line? Like is it not goo to hang your underwear or is that fine?

While I would suggest using a somewhat delicate setting on a dryer to dry underwear...putting them on a line is perfectly fine...in fact...that may prolong the wearing life of the underwear...

Hanging underwear on the line does make them last longer. My Amish relatives always hang the "smalls" on the line nearest the house so by goers won't see them plainly. I also hang sheets on the line to get the fresh cotton smell and crispness.

We are renowned for our wet weather even in the summer. So, although I use my clothes line I may have to go out quickly to bring it all in. However, I've got around the weather problem by putting up clothes lines in my garage. There, the clothes dry out overnight without me using the drier - which is really expensive!

In New Zealand we still have the common old washing line - its so important to us it's often mentioned in rental/sale ads as a way to attract attention .

My neighbour who is from the US said that she was quite surprised on how attached we New Zealanders were to the washing line and wondered why some of us have dryers in the first place. Personally I only use my dryer during the winter though my dad uses his probably 2 or 3 times a year.

Why waste energy on something that takes so little time to dry in the air. Underwear is the easiest to line dry, and they last longer.

Like wigsplitz said, it's faster to just use a dryer for your undies and socks. However my grandparents use a line to dry the larger items and it makes your clothes smell SOOO good. :D

I never bothered putting underwear or socks up there, it's not really worth it. Always put out heavy things that take a long time to dry, of course! Once line-dried, put them in the dryer for maybe 15 minutes to soften them and kill any bees or bugs that might have landed on them.
