What do think when you see a black punk/metal girl

What goes through your mind when you see a black girl with brightly coloured hair. piercings, tattoos and listens to metal, rock etc. I'm asking because some of these things are known as "white people" things. I myself don't care much for race what you like is what you like no problem. Do you laugh at her because "she's trying to be what she isn't" in terms of what the "norm" is for a person of her colour, also would you date her if you liked the same things or you wouldn't even go there

She's trying to be a white girl.. hahaha 8
Normal, why not she's so cool 43
I like her style 45
Abnormal wtf it's for white girls give it a rest 3
Maybe she should listen to some rap 12
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I don't understand why the colour of someone's skin means they have to act a certain way and would be picked on for acting like people with differently coloured skin act.

I don't know a girl like this but, if I did, I don't think I'd really connect the colour of her skin and the way she dressed. I never think of "black person stuff" and "white person stuff". Just "stuff".

Although, having said that, if I saw a white person wearing a turban, it would register with me and then I'd just think, "Well, I suppose there's no rule against white people being Sikhs".

    Is she hot?

Because if she is, then I'd think "She's hot".

If not then... well I don't care.

Somebody should have told Hendrix that rock is "white people" music.

I think "Well there is another one like me, after all."
"another one like me" meaning another girl who likes heavy metal, rock and punk.

I don't give a shit about racial stereotypes.

You seem to have met some dumbass racists. You know how many white people love "black" music? Are they trying to be black?
I think you're great the way you are!

I'm black and I enjoy rock (more than any other music genre).
My style is this: black sweater, eyeliner, blue hair, and skinny jeans, and some spiky accessories (i like leather and spikes..haha so cliché')
Being someone like this, I understand why you would want ask people's opinions.
Many would think seeing a black girl like this wouldn't matter much, but I've been hated many times for my differences. Most of the black people at my schools would see me as a traitor (they've actually approached me with their opinions). And some white people would see me as a poser.(although many who dressed similar would have more open-minded and eccentric personalities..thus more accepting)
To me punk and metal are terms for music genres, so I will not conform to these titles, but I will say my taste in music greatly influences my dressing. Being different will always get you weird looks. 70% of people probably would say 'who cares', but there are definitely at least 30% who show flaunt their disgust.

Whoever said metal is for white people must have never told Tosin Abasi, seriously check out the band Animals as Leaders, they are amazing.

it's totally cool, I worked with a tattooed black girl, who was very alternative looking and she was awesome. And when i go to shows (hardcore/metalcore) I see many black kids in the crowd. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. I wish people would just let this shit go.. it's just a skin color.

I either think nothing at all, or think 'it's unusual to see a black girl dressed like that'. That's pretty much it. I don't think she's cool because she dresses like that and I don't think she's trying to be something she's not. I doubt I'd dwell on it much.

She is not trying to be white. She might just be punk or Goth. A lot of them do that and you do not have to be white to be into these kind of things. I am not black so you all know so that is not why I’m saying this.

It is very rare that I personally see a black girl who is into punky, metal things etc. I don't see at is anything different or a problem. If it makes you happy then be who you want to be.
I personally used to be friends with a black punk girl. She was the most cheeriest, funnest person to be around. She really was amazing. Her skin colour didn't matter. Her music taste didn't matter. Her style did not matter. All what mattered was her personality and she was one of the nicest people I have ever known. She just brightened you up when you saw her.
It's just a stereotype that black people should be into rap and gang culture etc. but in the past few years I think that's dying out. My black cousin plays guitar in a rock band. I know quite a few black men who are into rap but who are also in indie too. And genres like rap aren't being classed as rap anymore. Some Nicki Minaj music is classed as pop and so is Tinie Tempah and Labrinth. The times are changing.

        South Africa.
It's not the deepest shit-hole in Africa, but we're still digging our way there.

You asked what we think of this "white girl" style on black girls...
My response is that it already looks bad on white girls, and even worse on black girls.

        • I'm in Botswana, howdy neighbour. SA is much better than bots.

I disagree with you punk is awesome & it's not better or worse on any race opinions differ but you are missing out I sensed a bit of racism in your comment "it's worse on black girls" Like how exactly? You can't say something is bad and leave it that there's gotta be some valid reasons, Is it trashy? what?. If it's bad enough as you said then shouldn't it be bad enough equally for white & black girls

Yeah, I do consider it trashy.
I dislike brightly coloured hair, piercings, tattoos, etc. I think it ruins anyone's appearance.
The difference it that (rare is it may be) I've actually seen WHITE girls that can pull it off. (like an exception to the rule above)
