What did sweeney todd do before he went back to london?

I'm curious what he may have been doing all those years before coming back. I mean really his daughter was a baby and he didn't come back till she was like 17. Feel free to comment.

    Revenge is a single minded thing, so probably plotting. Also Sweeney Todd is an urban legend, so it's more or less left to speculation what he did in prison. Maybe take a look at history for a more accurate guess?
