You can get free chat or you can buy chat. If you are not on here long enough can they take it away and if you are on here all the time is it a garentee that you are going to get it? Anyone know how the system works for it?
Basically you have to wait a couple of weeks and the thumbs ups on your comments have to outnumber the thumbs downs.
However, we also factor in a few other things. For example, how many times you correctly or incorrectly report a comment, and whether or not you incorrectly thumbs up a comment that is later removed by our moderators.
I did this in response to people complaining that the chat was getting hijacked by really annoying people. So, turning it into a reward for good behavior seemed like a good solution.
How about members who been here a long time and have not been allowed and certain members who get chat who really should not get it and are annoying trolls. Then some members only seem to get a thumbs up or thumb down based mainly on popularity regardless of the comment being good or bad.
Couldn't that have problems for certain people? A lot of people abuse the thumbs options, and the people that may suffer from it won't get in to chat because of it?
Yes that is what I am saying. So its just a popularity contest. So some of us get chat and some do not based on which of us are liked and which of us are not.
I agree. I personally can get in to the chat feature due to the previous generation of IIN users understanding where I was coming from, and so thumbed me up when they noticed they may be wrong, unfortunatly with the new generation, they don't work like that. If they are wrong, they don't want to be seen as wrong, and so they will thumbsed down just because of the following reasons:
- Popularity
- Dislike what was said, even if it was rational what was said (Basicaly punishment for rationality that may offend people)
, and so on.
What irritates me is that a lot of trolls and useless people on this site have full access to the chat feature, where as people that have bee rational have done nothing wrong, yet still are not able to be on there.
I thought it was free to all members! Now I know I'm special, since I can go on chat.

As far as I remember, you get chat when you make enough of a contribution to the website and are thumbed up for your contribution (hence, hopefully, a positive contribution).
My mate Frosties doesn't have access to chat and he's been here for months and got a reasonable amount of thumbs up, yet other people managed it in weeks. I don't exactly know the logistics of it and I'm guessing we punters don't need to know.

I had no idea you could hover over your name and see how much of your life you wasted on here? I'm assuming I've spent atleast 1 to 2 days a week for last year or so. Somehow I feel like that's an accomplishment?? So sad lol I'm only posting this to hover over my name..

That makes no sense. I have not been here that long since I was here a few months before I got gold and I got gold twice and that was a few months after I joined. Also I know since I found this site shortly after my birthday and my birthday is in a month. So one birthday to another is about a year. Also someone says I was here for 2 month and 2 weeks a month ago so it is not that long.
Well you have only had this account for that long.
I think your perception of time is inaccurate. It happens sometimes. I know I was surprised to see that I've been here over 9mths.

Yeah, approximately, though it does change now and then. Sometimes its only 11mths between them.

Hover the mouse over your username on a computer.
Also, the fact that your number is over 109000 gives an indication that you are a newer member. The older the user, the lower the number. On account of, you know. Counting and shit.
It goes by how long you had this particular account with IIN not how long you been on this site.
Multiple accounts does not help your case. And I think it's time you look at the facts before you play victim to some conspiracy you conjured up.
