Depends on the type of beer. The best porter I ever had was Canadian. For bitter, it's probably England. For stout, Ireland. For pilsener, the Czech Republic or Germany. For lager, Germany, Belgium, or Italy. For wheat beer, Belgium. I generally drink lager or wheat beer and my "usual" changes every six months to a year. I've been through Okocim (Polish), Kronenbourg (French), Kirin (Japanese), Red Stripe (Jamaican) and I'm on San Miguel now (Spanish). As the nights draw in, I'll start drinking ale and will go to stout at Christmas. There's nothing like drinking a Guinness in a real British pub while the snow falls outside. Happy times!
I want a beer now. :/
It is a tough call between Germany and Belgium. I really, really like the Belgian Abby style beers the most.
Call me crazy but my favorite beer is an import here called Brooklyn lager from the states. Im a disgrace to all Canadians.
I'll be waiting outside your house with my hockey stick and maple syrup.
You are indeed a disgrace, but you have good taste. A friend brought me some back when he was visiting his girlfriend in New York. She'd laid it on him to quash the "American beer" myth and he did the same to me. That is good stuff. Reminded me a little bit of Beck's, which you should try if you haven't already. It was a good strength for an American beer too. And there was a nice amount of malt in there. I liked it very much.
But what do we know? Jean-Claude van Damme advertises Coors Light in my country. He's Belgian. He knows beer. And a Belgian advertising an American "light" beer to a country of beer-lovers is like Cadbury advertising a creme egg filled with dogshit to the Swiss.
Everyone thinks germany makes the best beer but I have to say I live in germany and it's........
....fawking true germany makes the best beer! :D
The Netherlands? I thought Grolsch and Heineken were doing quite good :S
There are so many great American microbrewers brewing great beers, that should be the answer for any American! Freshness matters with beer, and you can get a fantastic locally brewed beer a lot fresher than an import.
Yes, you are right. Microbrews are really great.
You know why the Microbrew Revolution started in the mid to late 1980's?
After Prohibition was lifted on December 5th 1933, the repeal of the 18th Amendment of the Constitution (with the 21st Amendment) failed to fully spell out that home brewing was allowed. It wasn't until Jimmy Carter got into office and obviously as a nod to his brother Billy Carter, (remember Billy Beer?) did the full repeal take effect. An amendment was added which once again lawfully allowed home-brewing to restart. It was in the following years that people brewing in their kitchens, fed up with the Czech and Bohemia style Pilsner and Lager beers that are widely and commercially available, honed their recipes and decided to brew their own beer and sell it. Many Homebrewing supply stores have operated since before then though.
I'm probably not enough of a connoisseur to judge this, but Peroni which I really like as well is often considered the queen of beers, so I'll go with Italy.
I actually like US beers, even the cheaper ones. I prefer a milder flavor, I find foreign beers to be too pungent in one way or another. I'm not a big beer person, I only drink beer once in a while. I prefer liquor.
New Zealand best country in the world and the beers are great. you should try monteiths
I am a Belgian and I can say we have hundreds of different beers in our little country. A lot of them are very good indeed. I would say for the heavier beers Belgium is the best place, whereas lighter beers can be good in many other places e.g. Germany or Slowakia.
If you like dark heavy beers, please try one of the following: Affligem, Leffe, Chimay, Ciney, Westmalle. I am sure you will like it ;) Lots of these beers are between 8 and 13 percent alcohol though, so make sure that you`re not driving afterwards ;) Enjoy!
beez neez an australian pale beer with wheat barley and honey, it is feintly bitter and very nice or german
