    If this site is any indication, anonymity and lack of consequences. Like Plato's Ring of Gyges, the belief that one can do as they will and not suffer any consequences seems to bring out the worst in some people.

      I keep a devil mask next to my door for that purpose. I'm not kidding! I forgot to take it down when we got company and I'll bet they were wondering wtf?

        I invite them into my double wide and more than likely get all emotional when I get talking about how I'm a widow and found my husband, Earl, crushed to death under his Ford f150 King Cab when the jack slipped out. There he layed all bug eyed with his tongue sticking out and swelled up about 7 times larger than usual looking like a big old bullfrog. Then I'm all weepy by the time I get to telling them about our son, Dale, who beat cancer at the age of 6 only to choke to death on a pit. By the time i'm finished it's usually late in the afternoon, the're itchin to leave and I've completely forgotten to offer them some sweettea.

      That's why atheist leaders were so peaceful. Like Mao, Stalin or Hitler.

      Ah crap, I already made a Hitler comparison ... Not a good start, I know.
      But I think the largest problem is greed. Greed for money and power. Greedy people will use whatever ideology will help them get what they want. Hatred, fear and yes, often religion. The worst thing that happened to both Chrisianity and Islam was becoming politically powerful. It all went down hill from there.
