What are your thoughts on the recent cheerios commercial? iin?

I saw the recent Cheerios commercial and I am aware of the negativity it got from a lot of people because it depicted an interracial couple (black husband and white wife in this case). Honestly, it is good that people reacted this way because it is acting as a wake up call to some people who thought racism was over a long time ago. Unfortunately, that is not the case and it's stronger than what most people think.

Most of you will probably think that the racists I am specifically talking about are purely white. However, that is false. Some of them are black too. It came as a HUGE surprise to me to know that some black people were racists towards white people (sarcasm). Literally calling the blacks who date white women "sell outs".

This mindset is stupid and after researching a little with a friend, we confirmed that the only reason they say that is because they do not like white people (surprise surprise). This is probably coming from the same people who give blacks a bad name. I just want you guys to know that both white and black people were being racist towards the commercial.

Overall, the commercial was very cute and I loved it. I am glad Cheerios is not going to remove it and support ALL types of families out there. Love is what shapes relationships not race (unless you have a fetish for a specific race). Also, give me your opinion on mixing below and comment please. I want to know how the is it normal community feels on this topic.

I think everyone should stick within their own race 4
I am a little against it 5
I don't really care either way 1
People can mix if they choose 7
None of this matters as long as there is love 25
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I've heard about this. I think it's really weird that some people got so worked up about it. It isn't too uncommon to see interracial couples in adverts over here (it allows advertisers to target people of different races all at once, I assume). It wouldn't even register in my mind unless someone pointed it out to me. It's a loud minority that cares about these things, but it's still disturbing.

People can do what they like, no-one else has a right to stop them.

Whats repulsive is your perspective on relationships. If two people love each other then it's not your right to judge. Btw, whether you accept it or not, its there and is becoming more acceptable in society as time goes on. So, good luck with that kind of horrid logic.

I have nothing against interracialness, but I HATE that companies feel the need to try and include at least one person of each race in their commercials/ads.

Are people seriously still getting worked up over interracial relationships? That's really sad. It's the 21st century, get with the program America. Geez Louise.

I'm not sure if I have seen the commercial. I wasn't even aware of the backlash until my mother told me about it a few weeks ago. I am both shocked as well as not surprised. I am proud of Cheerios for showing that they support with consumers of any ethnicity. What sickens me is people and their ignorance. Humanity may be "advanced" in terms of other fields but when it comes down things such as this it becomes quite clear that we still have a long way to go.

I like how the one with the "cheerios bandit" features a black kid stealing

    Mmm, Cheerios!

No, I haven't seen the advert. I'm really failing to understand what's controversial about it. Is it really just because they were an interracial couple? The idea that this offends certain people so much really confuses me, to the point where I actually wonder if my definition of "interracial couple" is correct and if I'm not just missing something. Because, otherwise, I just don't understand. This really happens too much with me, and sometimes I actually do look up definitions in those cases, which I suppose is a bit silly.

If it's a case of racism, then it must just be me failing to empathise with that, because I really, really just don't get it. I'm actually a bit stunned by this sort of thing. I just...pfft, I'm at a loss for words! Just...no.

I hear you. This whole thing is pretty stupid. People have a right to be with who they choose. Btw, what is your definition of an interracial couple?
