Depends on the type of job. Too many people see a job as what you do at the end of education. It's a bad viewpoint, especially as education does not prepare you very well for work. Either education should prepare you better for work or people should begin with low-responsibility low-pay low-hours work much earlier in life (i.e. what is the harm in a classful of 12 year olds spending either an hour a week, or a week per year doing a job and being paid for it)? If they do a different job each time, it may also inform their career choices.

I feel passionately that under-16s aren't given enough guidance and support in determining their future career. I know I've said it before, but I'd rip the education system apart.

Depends on your circumstance. I didn't work while I was in school and I got my first summer job when I was 17 just to have a little extra spending money. However I had friends who got jobs because it was the only way they could purchase new clothes, fuel for their car, and/or school books.

This. I'd prefer kids to focus on their studies (not that I did...hah) but some kids need the money because their family doesn't have it. I think 16 and over is reasonable, but I don't think (outside of the circumstances I've already outlined) that it's necessary until secondary education finishes/tertiary study starts (if it does).

I think it's craziness to not work part time during tertiary study. My brother didn't and it sure as hell fucked him around.

This is from an Australian perspective, there'd be different circumstances elsewhere in the world.

Depends on your cicrumstances. I started working at 18 to afford clothes, my car etc. and despite trying to get a part time, I ended up in full time work which is great because I have an apartment and such now. I go to college as well, however, I have a lot of friends my age (I'm 21) that just go to school and don't work which is a good arrangement in my opinion

However, I think that if you're 18, you're not in school or have plans to do anything, you should look for work. I say this because I do know 18+ year olds that literally do fucking nothing and that's... that's pretty lame.
