What accent do you find the most attractive?

I would have put every possible accent in but that would take too much time. Just accept the generalisations people, and if there's an accent you think is superior and not featured, comment it :)

  • British?!? Are you serious lol? I have a british accent (because I'm from London duh) but I never thought people would think that British is the most attractive... but hey thanks for everyone who voted for British lol :)

I initially thought that American accents are one of the most attractive... along with Australian.

All accents....except southern/country (georgia, tennessee, etc)
For some reason, it's the only one that's intolerable to me.

Im American, and I find British accents a bit too proper. Like when I hear a British accent it seems boring to me, which is why I voted Australian. Since Im American, they both sound similar to me, but Australian slang and the lifestyle I think of when I hear their accents always gets me

ARGH you foreign bastards!! You always pretend to be Aussie and sound like a new zealander! It's offensive, Aussies and kiwis are always dissing each other for their many differences so they should be different categories. Sorry for ranting. Oh and suddenly I like british accents.

    • I thought someone might be pissed off with me putting the two together :D They sound similar enough that most people not from Australia, New Zealand or the Polynesian Islands will confuse them or naturally put them together. Think of the options as accent groups.

if they are accent groups, they are completely different. there is nothing the 'same' about them.

Scouse. I don't like the accent but in England it is one of the most famous and so should be mentioned! Other than that though I would say Australian is hot!

Well, l like a softly spoken Irish accent from Donegal or Wicklow or Wexford, and l like to hear a Spanish accent if the English is good, and a nice manly Scot from Aberdeen way.
Took me a few months of listening to geordies before l understood them..but now l love it.
London has so many, and it is always changing in some areas. The Londoner from one end of the street can speak totally different from the other end and yet they are both Londoners.
Apologies to any Brummies..but I don't like that one.
I also spent a lot of time in USA MA and noted that they have dozens and dozens of towns and cities named after English towns and cities..but they had forgotten how to pronounce them correctly. I do not go mad on American accents but the Cape Codders are not too harsh or brash.
The french accents can be a bit annoying because they zzzz too much ..as in 'thezzze place eezzzz very noizzzy.
The South African accents with their own speciality words made up of half english half Afrikaans can be very amusing, but sometimes a bit harsh.
A lot of accents also differ with age..and a 70yr old will have quite a different vocab and accent to his grandson.
I could listen to accents and discuss them all day..there is a word for people who like and listen to accents...but it escapes my mind at the moment.

They could even have their own country with their own passports. While we have retinal scans and fingerprints to prove our identity, they could have passport photographs of themself on a night out in January, just wearing a T-shirt. That's enough to prove citizenship of the Geordie nation.

They could also rename customs as "Howay doon this line, man". And the new answers for "Anything to declare?" are "Why aye, man" and "Nee way".

MissSorel is going to batter me if she sees this...

lol, joe, I don't know about professional. I'm interested to know what the other English people on the site think (particularly the southerners, because it's definitely a southern accent). I'd guess he's from Swindon. Either that, or from Bristol but spent some time nearer London.

Last time I heard an accent like that, I was in a Bristol pub with a mate and all I said was, "two pints of that, please" and the barmaid immediately said, "you boys are a long way from 'ome" in the same accent that guy has. Weirdly, I was less than two hundred miles from home. In many countries, that's absolutely nothing.

I'm an English Southerner. It does have a bit of the farmer about it, West Country like Bristol. Swindon might be a safer bet since it sounds a little bit more Eastern. Kind of hard to tell because he also sounds slightly retarded, and has a weird intonation, and, as he confessed himself, "has trouble with his pronunciation".

I'm from Gloucestershire, proper farmer accent there.... arrrr!

Just curious, are you American or British? I think we have several accents here in the UK that are much harder to understand. Take for example my favourite of the lot, the Scottish (and in particular, Dundonian) accent. I love all kinds of accents, though for me my favourites have to be Northern-England, Scotland (and the Brummy accent!)...and perhaps even a strong New York accent or thick European one....Damn, I give in. I just love accents!
