Weirdest food trend you have tried?

I love trying all the new foods that show up in magazines, some are pretty decent and some are just gross. Recently Ive tried quinoa--meh-- and kale chips, which were truly vile. They taste like cardboard that's been soaked in a lagoon and left out to dry. I made chia seed pudding. If you like the texture of tapioca youd probably go for it, but if you find slippery/seed texture unpleasant then probably not.
How about you is it normal people, I imagine there are a lot of weird foods you have tried...

Once my aunt cooked a cat and brought some home for us to taste, I didn't eat because I didn't like the idea of eating cat. She said it tasted like rabbit. But this is not common practise here and I think that everybody home was shocked that she actually did kill the cat and cooked it.

Here we eat wasps, the big, the small. For you it may seems weird but here it is common for children to go looking for the nests and fry the wasps.

    I like fish eyes.

Anyway, weirdest thing I've ever eaten - truffles.
At some really expensive restaurant. They taste horrible! Good thing my family wasn't paying. I know they are very expensive.

If you feel like paying 300+ Euros for bad mushrooms, go ahead. It's your money.

From Rodrigues. I don't like the idea of eating pets, but as I've said it's not common practice here and we were a little disgusted that she did this.

I don't follow food trends. I only try foods that I want to try.

Veggie chips with vegan cheese. The "cheese" was made from cashews and it gave me an allergic reaction.

I've had chia pudding before, it was very good. The texture takes some time to get used to, but it is worth it.

Green tea ice cream from Haagen Daaz. O_o

Red quinoa (Keen-Wa) I hate the texture. White quinoa was the best. Close to rice. It cooked quickly. But, soaked up the butter a little too well. It was versatile. You could put it with any flavour and it would work.

    Fermented duck eggs.

Uncooked salmon and lemon butter sandwich. Very tasty. :)

One food trend that truly fascinates me is gluten-free baking! I'm not gluten-intolerant, so I felt no need to dabble in that side of things. But, recently I have stumbled upon some gluten-free dessert recipes that looked delicious, so I tried them. I was AMAZED! I couldn't believe all these things were gluten free, and it fascinated me. People have become so innovative with gluten-free recipes. I don't have a gluten-free diet whatsoever, but it was just a side of cooking that I had always wanted to experiment with. I'm happy I did! Some gluten-free versions of desserts are actually better than their gluten counterparts.

    • I'm liking a lot of the alternative grains , sorghum is better than popcorn cause it doesn't have the little hard bits .

Lay out the kale on a baking sheet, toss em in some olive oil, some salt and stick in the oven. I forget what temp and how long. But not long, they burn easy and taste bad when burned.

Thanks for the tip. I'll probably try it with collard greens though, far easier to get here. When I get to it I'll let you how it turned out ;)

Not exactly the same but when I had to get up really early and drive to uni and was in a rush in winter I used to make a coffee mixed with a nutrition build up packet, hot chocolate, creatine, protein and a yoghurt, whack it all in a thermos and set off. Shit was vile but it saved on time of having to make a proper breakfast.
