Wedding is off can she keep the ring?

I was reading about a man who wanted the ring back. Google Man suing ex-fiancée who refuses to return $30K ring. Do you think she has to give the ring back? I think in a court they will say its a gift and people don't have to return gifts.

Bad thing is he only met her 3 months and proposed to her and bought her a $30,000 ring.

If she broke off the egagement then she needs to return the ring. If he broke off the engagement then it's all hers.

      I think that's fair.

An engagement ring is a contract. He gave it to her with the understanding they are to wed. If she doesn't hold up her end of the contract, she is not entitled to keep the ring.

I really don't know at this point. I guess can see both sides. He went out of his way to save money for it, so I think he should be able to sell it and get some of that cash back. I can also see it as it being a gift and her having no obligation to give it back. I've seen so many people fight over what happens to their engagement ring, it's just annoys me now.
This is probably the lack of sleep talking, but I don't understand the point of an engagement ring. Is it weird that I'd take a homemade engagement snack over a ring? Sure, the food is gone in like 3 minutes, but it's homemade, full of love, and so much cheaper. Heck, I'd even take something else that's handmade. Maybe I want to be the one to propose instead.

at the end of day if she was a decent person she'd give the ring back.

He was foolish to pay so much for it. She is money grubbing for not wanting to give it back or at least 50/50.

It really depends on who breaks off the engagement.

the trick is to give er a 30k ring and after a week or 2 swap it for a fake and return the real one

I never understood the point of getting an expensive ring. Wouldn't a simple wedding band with some thoughtful words be just as great as diamonds?

Well he's dumb and I don't think she has to. I don't see why anyone would want to keep a ring that represents a failed relationship. She probably wants it for the money. Hell I would sell it

Wow we were just talking about money grubbing women. Well guys just remember it doesn't have to be this way and your life can be different. Hmmmmm yeah right.

Take the million and one hints...run, don't walk away from marriage.

Men hold on to your worth, don't just give away your hard earned money.

This guy just paid $30k to learn a lesson.

Tell me how equality works when guys are giving out jewelry to get women to commit to them?

Oh right, I forgot equality only works when women need it to....

If its a gift I don't think she has to return it. There is so much more potentially going on that we don't know about. Did he break the engagement and why. Did she and why. You have to know both of those or the answer is a guess at best.
