We should regulate voting with a test

I believe we should regulate voting by first giving them a quiz. If in this quiz anywhere the person says "I want this person since they are a particular religion, race or are famous" will automatically be disqualified as unable to vote. Since this really has no value on if the person will do anything for your country. In fact I think they should list those as the questions.

  • Voting just gives people the illusion of choice these days.

    Right. And if they lie?

    • That was my first thought too.
If they know they will be disqualified, which they would, they would lie.

I'm going to need to see some credentials.

            ....

Huh. No, that's your penis. And it's unimpressive.

Never trust a university named "the Alberta Institute of Penile Implants"

Especially if their mailing adress is a p.o. box in Kentucky.

              Comment Hidden ( show )
      • They are not going to be told they are disqualified for that. It defeats the purpose of the test. It would also force people to focus on ISSUES not any racism or prejudice they might have. So no one can say "I totally agree with what hes saying but hes christian fuck him". That or the reverse of this.

        • Even if you don't tell them they would likely find out and know to lie next time.

The only way to do this is with some sort of conspiracy where nobody finds out their votes didn't count.

and they already do that anyway.

          • No you simply give them the test if they fail they cant. End of story. Letting everyone vote and tossing out half of them would be abuse since that means you can toss out ANY vote you wanted based on nothing. This would be a type of entrance exam not conspiracy like you believe we should be doing.

            • Obviously with the first person you deny word will get around that people are being denied for answering wrongly and then people will begin to lie.

              Comment Hidden ( show )
    • I really doubt they would lie about this. Since the people who do this based on religion, race or since the person is famous would gladly tell you."I picked this guy since he was on tv." If they see it as alright they are going to answer honestly. Since they do not see a problem with it. You can just ask them. They have and do answer one of these a lot of times.

Try actually thinking before typing, Alli.

Person comes to vote. They are told that they will only be allowed to vote based on answering the screening questions you are proposing 'correctly'.

How many times do you think they're going to go through that before cottoning on that lying works best?

I think they should just ask people some basic details of their candidate's campaign platform. That way it would at least weed out the people who are totally clueless.

I draw a subtle distinction between this and your original proposal. I think it's fair to require that people have enough information to make a rational decision but it strikes me as undemocratic to second guess how they make the decision itself.

So if a guy says "I know Senator Grayton supports giving tax breaks to drunk drivers using Predator Drones in the War on Christmas, but I'm still trust him over the other guy because he's White." then obviously I think he's an idiot, but I wouldn't be comfortable with an electoral system which had that value judgment built in.

        • If someone is only voting for someone based on race, religion, or "Omg I saw him on tv" that defeats the purpose of this. They are not choosing who they think is the hottest, coolest, best looking. The point is to pick who you think will make a difference.

If people are going to treat this shit like a game show whats the point it taking the persons opinion? They don't care what the person does and that ruins everything.

I think we should force people to stop being so racist, and prejudice and give a shit about whats going on in their country. That persons ignorance ruins it for everyone who paid attention.

So apposed to 90 racist idiots who voted for the skin tone. Think of it this way. What if we did this in court. The judge said "No he cant be guilty hes black, white, gay, straight, Hispanic". Now is that very productive? No not really.

We should not let people use such an idiotic method on something so crucial. Allowing this is the same as allowing someone to not be convicted thanks to religion, race, or the fact they are famous. If they raped someone they raped someone, if they killed someone they killed someone, being part of a minority group is not going to change that fact. So would you allow this idiocy in a court room?

Hey you're the dumb ass who wants to segregate voting based on your fucking criteria.
Yes, I can read and you are an unAmerican ass from what I read. So who is it is going to determine the questions to ask, you? Are these questions going to be in any language or just the ones you and your republican friends think are OK?
People like you piss me off and disgust me. America is a country based on the principle that all citizens are equal, not just the ones that are smart, cool, white, male or whatever else your tiny brain can conceive of to discriminate against them.
It's not like Americans have had anyone to vote for anyway, since Kennedy; a choice between the lesser of two evils is really no choice at all.

        • So being American is being a prejudice racist who only judges a persons character based on superficial things such as looks, race, and religion? Wow do you make the US sound like assholes. Buddy you are not doing your country a favour trust me. You are just making the US LOOK BAD! So you should probobly stop talking now.

I cant believe you are really fighting my thoughts by saying prejudice should be encouraged. Good message your spreading. I guess you didn't believe in the womens right movement or the free the slave idea either. Yeah none of those people would agree with you. So have fun trying to imprison the jews again HITLER.

We used to make voters take a literacy test til about the early 1960s though we stopped in the name of "greater equality". I don't think we should have a quiz about this because that wouldn't give everyone a chance to vote, and though this is the terror of democracy we need everyone's vote and representation.

I don't trust politicians to create an objective voting test. If a law were passed requiring voting tests, polticians will just used it to try to weed out their opponents voters to help themselves win.

For every voter that says "I'm voting for this person because she IS a woman or black or whatever" you can be assured there are 10 voters saying "I'm NOT voting for this person because she IS a woman, black, etc.."

If you pay tax you should have the right to vote any way you want.

    • If you are going to vote it should be on what will help your country. Being cool is not going to run things, being the biggest whore on this planet is not going to run things, being in an action movie does not mean you know what to do with this country. That kind of attitude is why they elect idiots and the government fails EVERY TIME!

And if you want to vote for a bunch of silver spooned career politicians that have never had a real job in their entire life, then that's fine with me also. Personally, I'd have more respect for the 'biggest whore on this planet'.

I was thinking more along the line that at least she would know her ass from her elbow, unlike the typical career politician.

If you don't like democracy, or feel that democracy has failed America, or that government should only be run by professional politicians just come out and say it. What you've suggested in the OP is not democracy and un-American.

            • So you agree that being famous means you should run a country? Simply being popular does not mean you care, simply being popular does not mean you can make a difference, that's superficial and has nothing to do with the actual political aspect of the matter.
