No; I remember watching when Spongebob came out on nickelodeon. It has always been for children. The thing is, it used to have great humor that both children and their parents could enjoy, but unfortunalty, somewhere in 2004-2005, they got these new writers, that aren't worth shit. The new episodes are corny as hell, but the old ones were hilarious and I still find myself watching it from time to time.

No. It is intended for kids. It just has innuendos so adults can laugh while children remain uncorrupted.

  • If its like a pixar movie they do put suggestive jokes in there for the parents enjoyment that little kids don't pick up on, because they realize about half of the audience is the parents with the kids.

No it was not. I have been watching sponge bob since it first stated airing back in 1999. An I can tell you for a fact that there has never been anything adulterated about that show.

I agree with omglula. Plus, if it were meant for adults, the creators wouldn't have put it on a children's network.
Yeah I know Family Guy, The King of the Hill, American Dad, etc are on Cartoon Network, but those are aired on the "Adult Swim" during hours in which little children should be asleep.

lol, no, but I believe someone created an adult version and pretended it was the original. A similar thing happened with a British show.

Ok yes it must be for an adult. You do not notice he acts like a five year old? That the cartoon comes on nick all hours of the day but not after hours like 4 when they start showing icarly? Than at 9 they show adult swim till 5 in the morning. Spongebob is niave and inicent like a child he eats sundays, blows bubbles, and jelly fishes(the land equal of catching butterflys) and he can not drive. He shows his love for sandy and patric in a loving innocont without being romantic. Any who say its gay or for adults wishes to strip it of its innoconts. Spongebob is like the wiggles a playful adult who is acting silly to amuse kids but since he is a cartoon he gave him traits of a child so kids can relate and kids stay innocont as all the things he deos teaches good behavior and life lessons. Do not devile the innocont leave spongebob alone.

No it just came atthe right time. Before the 90s there was crappy eighties cartoons like Muppet Babies, He-man, Smurfs, in the 90s cartoons got more creative and the producers had more freedom so they got funnier and also more adult as the writers slipped in jokes like on Animaniacs, Ren and Stimpy, Spongebob.

I personally believe that, since it was targeted for kids and having it featured on Nickelodeon, that it was intended for kids. However, I do think that there are some adult themes that aren't explored in the show fully. It's the kind of subliminal stuff most kids will not pick up.

Only after many years did I finally pick up and understand those adult themes.

I don't know for sure but I wouldn't be surprised if it was. Ren and Stimpy got so "naughty" that it was taken off Nick and sent to MTV. (Viacom owns both Nick and MTV) Rocko's Modern Life also got sent to MTV, but the special thing about Rocko's Modern Life was that the main director was Hillenberg, the creator of Spongebob.

So we know that the creator has no issue with adult humor or adult networks, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he didn't want to create a kid's show.

Rocko's Modern Life was directed by Joe Murray!

And I'm corrected. Joe Murray was the main director of Rocko's Modern life but Hillenberg was still a part of the project.

I think in the very early sketches it was, but then made as a kid's show with adult humor thrown in.
