Was my panic attack normal? and will it always happen?

So last night I got high for the first time and at the beginning it felt chill and fine, then someone clicked and I just started panicking, the room was spinning. I was high and then not high, high and then not high. I could hear my heart beat and it was exceptionally fast. I then lay down to calm myself but everything I did was so slow, I tried to grab my glass of water but I was just too slow. When I was lying down I was shaking and I was so paranoid that I was permanently going to be stuck in the trip. I'm well aware that this of course was a panic attack but why is it that I had one and not a chill high? And will I always have panic attacks like is weed just not for me? Or will I be able to someday have an enjoyable high?

    Here is the thing about marijuana . It's has a variety of effects depending on the strain or "type" of weed you smoke . It also feels differently to each different user of it , it also can feel different depending on the environment you are in , mood you are in . This is common when using any "drug" although marijuana isn't to me . Now that you know this , the effects you describe are all common effects of marijuana minus the paranoia , that varies from person to person . I experience anxiety and paranoia which is why my use of it is very limited or else I would probably smoke very consistently . It sounds like a typical case of you smoked too much weed or too potent of weed for your first time , if that's the case your tolerance will build fast and high . You should really only be trying 2 - 3 hits of a joint to start off but that's subjective ... its different for everyone like I said . The other thing , if you are a teenager still , you probably should wait until you are in your mid twenties to try marijuana or at least closer to it since your not fully developed in mind . This could play a role , but it really just sounds like you had a lot for your first go or wasn't ready for it . Do not be nervous when you use it , that brings it on .. just be calm and remember , it's just a plant/flower ... it wont hurt you and you can always ride out a bad experience until you are cool again and give another try . If you constantly experience this paranoia and anxiety say 8 or 9 out of 10 times you smoke weed ... I would say it isn't for you . I just smoked only a roach of mine and got some anxiety off it . So it can happen to anyone under any amount . The spinning happens , like drinking too much .. you spin , the shaking was because you were scared ( having anxiety ) and the feeling of permanent damage or impendent doom ( you are going to die ) is common in a "bad trip" especially in new users . I think you should realize it happens , you will be fine .. just go with the flow and don't let it control you , understand it's just a natural substance that will eventually wear off and it's all good . If you change the setting you are in , listen to music , do something active like a walk etc. keep busy , it will be easier .. have some sugary treats or something and some water you should feel better . Just make sure you smoke light , work your way into it .. get your feet wet and then walk into the swimming area . have good friends , good vibes and you should be cool . Let the weed do its part and you do yours :)

    Yeah, it's been said a lot, but I agree. Sounds like you smoked too much. Especially for your first time. Like the others said, start out small. I still get panic attacks when I smoke too much, even after 2 years. Never was a heavy smoker, though. I feel like it's a good idea to get high until you feel good, not to get "fucked up." Obviously some people like to get completely toasted, but usually those people aren't prone to panic attacks. If you're one of the people that are, just try and use your judgement. I've found that if I feel high right after smoking, it usually means I'll be fucked up after 20 minutes. Just wait a few minutes between puffs. As I'm sure you know, you probably won't harm yourself from getting too high, but it can feel like hell.

    Yeah a lot of people get paranoid and anxiety with pot. You just need to practice with it more. Say for instance smoking a couple hits at home then progressing to smoking more and going out. But some people never get used to it. I'm 19 and have been smoking (not heavily) for five years. I still don't enjoy it really but am able to control the paranoia for the most part. I personally enjoy stimulants and alcohol.

    I had dejavu intensely the first time I ever smoked weed! It was freaky as fuck! Sounds like you had too much and your body was struggling to tolerate it. Everyone gets some anxiety with weed initially I think. It naturally speeds up your heart because its a DRUG and your body is like " wtf is this shit"!?
    I think you also probably freaked yourself out a bit because it was a new feeling so it felt worse than it should have. If you had just breathed through it or tried distracting yourself it may not have been as bad of a trip IMO.
