I voted yes, but who knows what the hell goes through a cat's head. But I figure, the cat can surely smell it. It's gotta know, from the smell, that it's *your* crap and that it's fresh. And it sees that you were sitting right there when and where it happened. How bright does the cat really have to be?
Wanna entertain your cat? Hold a piece of toilet paper over the bowl and wiggle it, then drop it in ... or do something else like that, the point is to get the cat to stand on its hind legs and peek over the edge of the toilet bowl. Then, while it's looking down at the water, flush the toilet. My cat, at least, is utterly fascinated by this. Now I don't even need to urge him with the toilet paper anymore; if he's around and watching me, all I have to do is touch the toilet handle and he'll run over to see all the water disappear.
I'm not sure if my cat "knows" but he used to be curious when I went to piss or poop and after having satisfied his curiosity a few times he stopped paying attention to me when I pee outdoors or something.
