Want to make friends with girl who already has a boyfriend

A few months ago, I met this girl with whom I shared several classes, and we would often talk before and after class and even got together to study once. Now that the semester is over, we no longer have any classes with each other but I would like to still be able to see her, as she is the first (and thus far, only) friend I've made in University. However, because she has a boyfriend (who lives far, far away), I am afraid to ask her for her phone number so we can keep in contact, lest she get the wrong idea. Keep in mind, I have no ulterior motives here, I desire only friendship from her, and my heart already belongs to another girl.
Anyway, is it normal to hang out with a girl who already has a boyfriend if you are a guy? And should I try to keep in contact with her, or not?

    As a female I believe you can't have too many friends or shoes. Hopefully she will feel the same. Tell her why you want her number, that you don't know many people, she'll think that's sweet of you.

    I also have a bf who lives far and just started university i met a lot of new people (girls and boys) it's ok to exchange phone numbers and it's always nice to make new friends! Just do it! :D

    you sound like a nice guy hun, and yes i think you should and if you do, do tell your gf, if you dont.. then of course its going to seem like there is some motive.. just place yourself in ur gf shoes.

    But if you genuenly like this girl as a friend, there is something called fb, message her, say what a shame you guys dont have anymore clases but you can still meet up to revise together if she likes,and make sure you try and clear it out to her that you like her as a friend unless you are giving her the wrong impression

    Yeah thats completely normal. im a girl, and i wouldnt think anything of it if a guy friend asked for my number to keep in touch. especially if i knew he had a girlfriend like you do. just dont say something like "not as anything more than friends" or anything to her because that would make thing akward and would probably make her think that you ARE trying to be more than friends.
