Villains in american films...

Why is it that in many American Films the villains are Russian or English? I could guess the reason for them making the villains Russian, but not so much the English ones. What point do you think these films are trying to make? Do all or most countries do this in films?

Is this normal?

    Warning: generalization ahead.
There's a bit of xenophobia that's fairly rampant in America. Making the villain a foreigner is just playing to their audience (unfortunate as that is).

Interestingly enough, British villains always seem to be portrayed as bloody wicked masterminds, and the Russians are honestly just badass.

    Note: I know nothing.

Because villains need accents and what accent is hotter than english one?

USA should change it to North Korea.

And they all have bank accounts and mansions in Switzerland. How do you think that makes me feel?

(Although the waterfall house in Sherlock Holmes was pretty awesome)

I think it's just so easy to turn the stereotypical 'refined English gentleman' into something sinister.

I don't think they are trying to "make a point".

It's just that the stereotypes about those people can fit well into the villain archetype.
