Vegans on cooking competition shows?
I'm not sure if any of you are farmiliar with the cooking competition show on tv, called Come Dine With Me, but in a nutshell, four guests get a turn to host a dinner party for eachother, and the guests score in secret to determine the winner.
Now, typically most people on that show aren't always fussy eaters, atleast not extreme fussy eaters, except the damn vegans. Now don't get me wrong, I don't exactly agree with the whole vegan idea, but I don't discriminate against those who choose a vegan lifestyle.
That being said, if I were a vegan, I would not bother entering a cooking competiton seing as the majority of the world enjoy eating meat and dairy. Animal products are delicious and nutritious. However, since there are many vegans that do enter said cooking competition, the rest of the guests are often expected by the vegan guest of the group, should there be one, to be accomodating and provide a seperately prepared vegan meal suitable for them.
I understand this, and I would be more than happy to prepare a vegan meal for a vegan guest, but sadly, I'm not sure my hospitality would be returned, come their turn to cook for everyone who is non vegan.
Almost every single vegan on the show gets accomadated with a vegan meal, but when its their turn to cook, they cook a vegan meal for everybody, which I don't find one bit fair.
Why are their lifestyle choices regarding food more important than everyone else's? Why do they expect a seperately prepared meal for them that the host would have otherwise not been bothered to make but went out of their way anyway, yet the non vegan guests do not get accomaded with a non vegan meal?
I just find that terribly selfish and self centered of some the vegan guests on the show that do this. I can understand if you visit a vegan family member and you're hungry and all they have is salad. Don't like their cooking? Don't expect to get free food when you go there. However, Come Dine With Me is a cooking competition, for christ's sake, why not accomadate your guests like they did for you, and prepare them a seperate meal? Afterall, vegans are the minority, and should be greatful that a seperate meal was even prepared for them.
Furthermore, if there's hardly anything they eat and they are not prepared to accomadate their guests, why join a cooking competition in the first place?
What does everybody else think of this? Is it fair for vegans to be this way or should they atleast make the effort and cook meat for the non vegan guests seing as the non vegan guests all cooked plants for the vegan guest?
