Vaginal infection?

Hi girls. For the past month now my i've been really itchy in my vaginal area. It's red in the area but there are no other unusual symptoms. I'm a virgin but I do masturbate. I'd hate to go to the trouble of telling my mom and going to a gyn., but do you think I should? Could it be an infection or is itching normal?

Old post, but for future reference it sounds like a yeast infection, which isn't usually transmitted sexually. It happens when something (soap, antibiotics, etc.) disturbs the "good" bacteria that lives in your vagina and keeps "bad" bacteria at bay. There is a one time pill available by prescription but most people use over the counter treatments like Monistat.

When it burns when you pee it is known as 'cystitis'

Nah. Yeast infection is just itcthing and thick, white discharge.

Some people confuse yeast infection with common vaginal unbalance, and you should not overdo yeast infection treatments.

The thing you are talking about with burning sensation when you pee makes me think of UTI, not dangerous if medically treated with antibiotics.

Maybe try Vagisil for itching. Hopefully that will work for you. Good luck! :)
