Urges to run or to beat people up

I am a teenage girl, and I often get really strange urges. Most nights just before I go to sleep I have a really strong urge to be running down my road as fast as possible, away from my house. I just imagine myself running and I really want to be doing it. I don't really have any problems at home, generally I am very happy. Also, sometimes I really want to have the opportunity to beat someone up or try and hurt someone. Some part of my brain just thinks it would be really fun and satisfying, and I even half-wish someone would harass me or do something to me so that I could do it in self defence. Do you know anything about these urges, and are they normal?

Running is pretty normal. Wanting to beat people up isn't. Therapist.

Relax, you are making too big a deal out of every little thing.

When I hear someone who is incredibly stupid, I literally imagine myself punching them to the ground.

    Totally normal.
I'm a teenage girl too, and I'm pretty good at climbing and running. I often want to run constantly and be free.

I've also wanted to see destruction. I have a punching bag, but sometimes that's not enough, you know? I want to see something shatter, crack, or split beneath my fists. Like punching a computer; I've always wanted to do that.

Although I can't explain the purpose of it, I'd say yes, it's completely normal.

I get that too. As long as you don't actually beat some random guy up you're fine.

I have that a lot. It's a sign of captivity. You are subconsciously feeling trapped and urges to run or scream or jump from high points are signs that you need to escape. And the beat people up part is probably something you want to do in order to vent out anger or energy.

  • I don't know if this is normal, but I think a lot of us have repressed feelings similar to this. I bet that's why so many people want a zombie apocalypse, so we can punch stuff. Furthermore, I can't explain it, but I think I know what feelings you have on this. Beating someone up is just a way to feel dominant and totally in control. Does that make sense? As for the running down the road thing, I kind of have the same feeling except it's riding my bike as fast as I can. I like accelerating at night because it makes me feel like I'm in a movie or escaping society. I feel as if I'm utterly alone but I'm ok with it. Anyways, just put your fists down and you'll be alright. The running down part, I don't suggests doing anything dangerous.
