Upset that son talks about being a cop

My son says he wants to be a state trooper when he grows up. The thought makes me sick, I hate cops most of them are bullying assholes. And aside from that, its a shit job being around negative people and crime all the time. Not to mention the possibility of getting shot.
Do you think he will grow out of this idea? Most kids want to be ballerinas or cops when they are small.

      Cops rarely prevent crimes they just show up after and take notes and useless stuff like that.

      I had my car stolen and the cops did exactly jack shit.

    Make sure you teach him the value of good morals. Hopefully, if he does become a cop later on, he'll stay true to what he was taught as a child. :)

      My father-in-law was also a cop but he did crooked things, he even stole stuff from a store that had already been broken into and stole drugs off drug dealers to use them himself.
      But I am raising him much better than that.

    How old is he? Also nothing wrong with being a cop he could be a good one...not all cops are bad I have known some very nice ones before.
    Also if he is young he just wants to be a cop to help people ... its the same reason kids want to be firemen and super heros.
    Ether way I hope you dont discourage him.

    Also could be worse he could be a criminal and on drugs...sooo calm down.

    My daughter a lot of the time wants to be an inventer she tapes things together gives it a weird name and adds the number 2000 at the end of it....then tries to sell us the invention.

    I wouldn't worry too much about it.. Cops are horrible so they wouldn't hire your awesome kiddo.

      I didn't used to hate cops until I had several bad experiences with them. I never committed any crimes but Ive seen how they "handle" situations and Im not too impressed.

    He is only eight yrs old now so it's still possible he might make a different choice. When he's old enough, he should follow his passion. It's his life and choice. Don't worry so much about it now.

    Eight is a bit young for you to be too worried about it. I'd just go along with it for now and see how things progress. It would be a really bad idea to make a big scene about it.
    Chances are he'll become as anti-cop as you are by the time he's old enough to be a cop.
